Is there any reference anywhere what DR should be good for Ambient / New age type tracks. One of mine is showing 10. Is that good?
Look at this site:
http://www.pleasurizemusic.com/en/our-aim

On the end of the page there is a table. According this, a DR of 8 and above is OK for electronic music with heavy rythm. More soft tracks should have 10 or more I think.

Oh man, once again I missed many days of interesting discussion, synth announcement for next month, and the voting :( . KVR's email notification definitely seems to have bugs. At least I agree with the voting results :D

Ditto - I haven't had a notification from this thread in weeks, it seems.

OK, I have a theory about what was happening. KVR doesn't send a new notification until you visit the forum. If you visit but you are not logged in, the visit doesn't reset the notification. Sometimes I was clicking on the notification link on a computer (or my iPhone) where I'm not logged in to KVR.

Yes I think KVR will only notify of one edit in the thread until you visit it again (logged in).

About TT Dynamic Range Meter, as Photonic says, there is a table at Pleasurize Music on recommended numbers:

About format, the mp3's must also be 44khz so check that.

Like you say satYatunes, the dll should ideally be used in the project to measure the DR during mixing, the exe for getting the exact DR number after final render.

I have a couple of questions about the rules. The thing is I make one song every week and post it on my soundcloud and then put it on my website. And I have a naming convention which I wouldn't want to change just for the competition. I would want to use the same song for the competition as my weekly song as well.

So these are the rules I'm concerned about:

Your entry must be composed specifically for this contest
what exactly does this mean? so could i still upload the songs to my soundcloud and post them on my website like i normally would? could i do whatever i want with the song, such as use it wherever i want or sell it or anything i would with a normal song?

File name format: Artist - Song Title where artist name is the same as KVR nick.
i guess i would have to upload the songs separately instead of selecting an already uploaded file? (because of the naming). when i upload a song to someone else's dropbox does it use up my upload minutes or those of the dropbox owner?

Multiple submissions are allowed
is there a limit?

Sure, it's your property, you just can't compose something then take it and use it later for the OSC.

No, you just share your already uploaded track - no additional minutes. Unless you really don't want to name the track a certain way, then yes, you'd have to upload a separately named track. I think the naming convention is because it could potentially be hard to determine the artist when viewed in the player or downloaded, or if your soundcloud name is different than your KVR name it would be necessary.

No, submit 1000 songs if you like, they just all have to be composed for the OSC (see Fabrizio/Skyzone's incredible submission count!).

Cool, thanks!

About the naming convention I mean my naming convention. Maybe you can check out my soundcloud (same user name as here -> sevaztian) so you can see what I mean. So I really don't want to name the tracks uploaded on my account a different way :p But I guess I can upload a separate one then with a different name :)

Yes maybe just upload a second one with a different name, which you then can delete after voting ends when all songs are anyway moved to archive.org and the SoundCloud group emptied for another competition.

Howdy,

I just came upon an interesting "anomaly". A least it seems to be.

Working with RETROGRADE in FL10 I made a simple 5 step rythm pattern wave to use in my track. It is the "free" version of FL so saves are out as an option.

The weird thing is, in the pattern player, using the wave, the volume gradually increases. So much so that after the 15th or so repetition, the vu meters stay constantly in the red... any ideas as to what's going on?

The sample loops and does not stop when the pattern starts again.

After 15 loops you hear the sample 15 times together.

Make sure the sample does not loop.

I have a new idea. I can use the required name for the competition and after the competition I can just edit the track and change the name. I guess that would work?

I'm sure that's fine - as stated before, your track is your property to do what you wish with. I do see what you mean about your naming convention... but rules are rules.

To pick up the conversation from the OSC43 Voting thread, I think I am starting to see the "bandwagon effect" starting to take shape (don't throw things... it's just my opinion.) So "secret voting" may be the way to go, but if so, perhaps the voting time could be reduced to three days or even one day... countries all over the planet manage to elect their leaders in only one day.

As to not wanting to feed the troll.. his initial statement was that the voting was rigged, then he followed by saying that certain music styles were awarded over others. I'm not seeing it, but if so, so what? His fear, to me, seems to be that whatever style he likes to make hasn't got a home on the web somewhere and if he submits here he won't win and be showered with accolades.

I've noticed, over the years, some people enter groups by playing the victim and having others constantly coddle their feelings. I'm not a fan of that and never have been inclined to feel sorry for them. It shows deeper psychological problems than I am equipped to handle, or willing to deal with.

If someone has an occasional problem. then I'll be one of the first to lend a hand or utter encouraging words, but constant mewing gets under my skin and I really have no patience for it.

Just my thoughts...
