sorry to look stupid or ask stupid questions, but what's the advantage of using a 64bit vst plugin on a 32bit os or is it more of a help when using a 32bit-only daw in an
64bit environment ??

like, my daw i am using is 32bit only for windows and i might switch
to win7 64bit.
SOOO. if i'll use the 32bit daw and jbridge the 64bit vst plugs, will
the plugs still act as 64bit processes? :help:

Post

Hello. :-)

Please note that if you're still using a 32bit Windows, you won't be able to use any 64bit plugins in it ( If I understood correctly, that is your case ).

However, if you make the switch to a 64bit Windows, you'll be able to bridge 64bit plugins to your existing setup, and benefit from all the extra RAM a 64bit system can provide.

A 64bit plugin bridged into a 32bit DAW will still operate as 64bit, as it will be hosted by its own 64bit process. It just "communicates" with another process ( your 32bit host ) processing and delivering all the needed data.

Hope this helps to clear your doubts, let me know if you have any more questions. ;)

hello!
and thanks for the quick response!

so that means, if i switch to the 64bit os, i can keep my
vst folder with the 32bit dlls and use an extra folder
with 64bit dlls? my 32bit daw will have no problems using the
32bit versions in a 64bit os?

Hello.

I can't guarantee that all your 32bit Windows software will work in 64bit Windows versions, as you may understand, the combinations are endless.

But what I can say is that, in a general way, it usually works, so you should be fine.

yea, ofcourse not all 32bit software will run flawlessly.
but i hope the vst/vstis which are 32bit only will do.

i've tried the demo with kontakt in winxp, to overcome the
memory limitations. works ok so far but sometimes it does
break kontakts neck if i have instruments in it which use
abit more memory and no dfd.

my winxp is using the PAE mode cos i have 6gb in my pc rack,
extra for win7. but ye, i'm still struggling switching over
to win7 :D

that means i use winxp with 6gb + pae mode. i don't know if
this helps much but with jbridge together it should work
well?

Post

Hello.

If I recall correctly, XP 32bit can only address up to 4GB, even with PAE on.

I would prefer to use Windows 7 64bit, because it's more according to the way that everything's supposed to work. Most of the software you'll be using wasn't designed with PAE in mind, which will increase the chances of running into problems. :(

I have a question.

Im running Pro Tools 9.05 on a windows 7 64bit system.
I am having an issue with the Gforce Plug-in M-Tron Pro.

Will Jbridge help correct this issue. Or do you know a way i can run that
plug in?

Thanks so much. :)

Hi, I just replied your pm.

As I said, I need you to provide me more details about the problem. ;)

Does the plugin work well in your system when used in a 32bit VST host?

im running Pro Tools 9.05 on a Windows 7 64 bit system.

My friend and I purchased GFroce M-tron pro.
We loaded it and when we try to open it up in PT there is nothing but a black screen.

Im thinking its a compatability issue. I did contact GFroce.

Maybe ill try to uninstall and reinstall in 32 bit Program files folder (x86)

Just the plug in is not working and maybe your JBridge along with the VST to Rsta converter may help.

Thanks so much for responding to my message : )

Ohh ok, my buddie loaded it. What do you mean by the 32bit VST Host?
You mean load it in the Program file (x86) on the 64 bit Windows OS?

Im helping my friend, so i can try that this week when im at his home.
He just told me he loaded it in Pro Tools 9 and when he brings up the Plug In it is just a black screen. (nothing really)

I will go over there and reinstall.
:)

Hi!

By "32bit VST host" I mean if the ProTools product you're using is 32bit or 64bit?

If it is 32bit, and the plugin doesn't work well, I don't think that bridging it will help either. :(

I will try the Jbridge : )
I also saw you had a tutorial.
Thats helpful since im not a computer wizard.

Since its Pro Tools, will i need the VST to RSTA convertor because jbridge will not bridge RSTA right?

Post

Hi!

Unfortunately I am not familiar with ProTools, I am not sure if it supports VST's ( I think not, and in that case you'll need to use the RTAS adapter ).

Some Image-Line plugins seem to be having some problems - Edison and Harmor both give me grey areas when I do something like drop down the preset menu or open a sub editor, particularly Harmor is terrible even after using the sluggish gui hack. Not tested them all yet but I suspect harmless and maybe Sakura will have similar problems since they are all by the same dev and all have rather bitmap heavy gui's.
