WTF is going on here?????????

Even IF they release this Year, a 1.0 release will NOT make your currently DAW obsolete.

Post

Well nice to know that they've committed to a specific year at least... :hihi:

That boat has sailed for me though, as I got tired of waiting.

I mean seriously. They were so totally out of touch as little as a year ago and now it's like suddenly they actually give a damn. Great stuff.
This is your speculation... Maybe it is fairly accurate, then maybe not.

Roughly a year ago Ableton announced Push. Before that Ableton spent a lot of time working under the hood of Live to make Push possible and that that work did not translate into flashy features. So it appeared that Ableton was not doing that much. Now that the core changes for Push are complete, they can add new stuff that users notice. So while you see it as some sudden change and attribute it to 'fear' of Bitwig, I say there is no sudden change or knee jerk response to Bitwig and it is simply part of a planned multi-year process.

That is my speculation ;-)
Such thoughtful, logical thinking doesn't belong in this thread, sir. We much prefer conspiracy theories and kitty pictures.

How many ways would you like to beat a dead horse.

It will be ready when it's ready, until then.......

That's plausible as well. What is not plausible to me in that variant is the timeline. Why release something so blatantly half-assed as Live 9.0, and to the din of complete communicative chaos even for Ableton, when six or nine months down the line, you'd be in a perfect position to release it far less so? I mean, I wasn't asking for dual monitors, but it would have been something to point to. Instead it was, er, session automation? That was more like an "about freaking time" feature. Audio to midi? They didn't even make that themselves.

It's not "fear" of bitwig, it's competition. Of course it's a fact that they now have time and ressources to work on the other stuff, but the fact that they released Live 9 before they had taken that time shows they were under some sort of pressure to get it out.

And then there's the never-ever-seen-before two massive sales in six months. On top of a 9.0 release no less, not like 8.5 where thez added m4L. Just vanilla 9.0. 50% off used to be a once in a product cycle event, if there was such a thing at all (30% was the norm). Now two in six months? Nah.

To me it's obvious they wanted to get their foot in the door with 9.0, have as many people as possible reinvest in their platform while they are still the only choice, then add stuff later for those on the fence. 9.0 was a tactical move on the market. It was to avoid working on finishing it all for late 2013 and having Bitwig release in May 2013 and Ableton being stuck with their pants down crying "but, but, we'll have that too!! Soon! Summer 2013! No Fall! Holiday Season!" (sound familiar? ;))

But anyway, we'll probably never know.

I'm not sure what Ed Miliband (Google if you need to, outside the UK) has got to do with it.

I could be wrong but I think hibidy's point was a bit of consoling bitwigs cat here.

A bit of re-assurance as the kitty is upset they can't get BWS to market.

Happy Musiking!
