To be fair, I don't blame them for the hype, as it rather was user created. But... it's still kind of lame to indicate something new, and then there's really nothing for over half a year.

If they release a Oberheim 8-voice emu tomorrow, they shall be forgiven. ;)

I didn't see the hype you all mentioned. Gforce are usually pretty tight-lipped about coming products.

That said, I'll probably buy whatever they'll make (and regret it later, as in the case of VSM).

amazing how worked up ppl get about nothing, and then blame a company

its not a life changing event....

It was what: late-September when they started saying 'we're updating our website in anticipation of some new products, one of which is pretty close to release?' And five months later it's looking like it will be released? That doesn't seem like an absurd amount of hype. They haven't said what it is, haven't called it "the most revolutionary new product to hit the market since Model E" or anything like that...I think that's a reasonable amount of information provided and/or wait time.

Most of it has been KVR generated hype but the following quote is what got the train out of the station in September 2020 so my point stands:
dasen wrote: Sat Sep 26, 2020 7:45 am Emailed Gforce support to ask if they are working on any new products, got this reply:
"Yes. We’re making two. They’re amazing. :) One in particular may be quite nearly ready."
I’ll get in trouble if I give too much away! But I can say that it’s a totally new product, not a reworking of something we’ve already got. Not a “2” or “3”. And everything we do is an expanded emulation of a classic synth, it’s our thing. So it’s along those lines."

Please no. I'm fairly sure it will be an emulation of yet another rusty old analog dinosaur which will no doubt thrill the masses but how many do we really need ? My folder is analog bloated to the point I traded my DIVA license away and have dismissed Tal J-8 as redundant and boring.

There are a lot of "classic synths" that have no emulation and have nothing to do with limited analog architecture.

yeah, but when Gforce releases something I've found they rarely need to move from their 1.0 version for a long time as they seem to make things pretty bullet-proof right out of the chute... so worth the wait in my books, and plenty of other stuff to keep me occupied in the meantime so I don't need to get all upset or anything...

Post

Whatever it is I hope they've improved their GUI accessibility.

No one is upset.....yet. Until all those people hoping for a CS80 or Oberheim find out it's not. :hihi:

No matter what it is once dropped the microscopes will come out and the usual "it doesn't sound like the hardware unit I owned 20 years ago" comments will start rolling in....... :P

How is their mellotron? I briefly tried the Arturia mellotron and didn't care for it. I actually thought an old freeware called redtron sounded better than Arturia for some reason, even though it seems hard to mess up mellotron samples?

Also what are the "streetly tapes"? I recall watching several videos about the "streetly tapes" and still coming away not fully understanding what they were.

Their M-Tron Pro mellotron is fantastic and not surprising as they have involvement from guys who built the original thing and the Streetly Tapes (IIRC) are named after the machine that Mellotron itself used to record the 'sample' tapes on so they're just about the best quality versions of the original tapes you'll find. All that said, there's some noise and 'colour' on the tapes as you'd expect because these are in many cases 50+ year old tapes and this gives a lot of lo-fi character.
