Hmm, like many other KVR users, I have way too much plugins too. I think the closest competitors would be U-he Repro-5 (yes, it offers more tweaking possibilities, I know, I know), Softube Model 80, or maybe TAL J-8. I'm not that much into classic "analog" poly sounds, but still, Polymax would be soundwise my personal favourite of this four.Uncle E wrote: Sat May 24, 2025 6:54 pmHe has a lot of synths. Combine with the Usual Suspects stuff and that's enough synths to do anything.Rastkovic wrote: Sat May 24, 2025 6:44 pmMaybe a bit too overdramatic? It's just a simple synth, not Zebra. I should've elaborated: the UAD installer, hassle, ilok, etc. isn't worth it for PolyMax in my view. Whereas, if you have already gone down that rough road with UAD, then definitely go for it - though you may find yourself disappointed with the lack of some things that you assumed were basic.Uncle E wrote: Sat May 24, 2025 6:54 pmHe has a lot of synths. UAD's preset browser is rather terrible. Expanding a GUI to the left (or right) is not a good idea. Softube's is only marginally better, but thay also do that less than ideal GUI expanding for other things. Who likes their GUIs jumping around? Not me, anyway.

The shade of green they use for the Mono and Legato buttons is kind of ugly. Not worth it, even for free.

I actually quite like it, as you can see and skip through the full list while having the synth open.mi-os wrote: Sat May 24, 2025 8:40 pm UAD's preset browser is rather terrible. I can flick through things and tweak a bit and carry on quite seamlessly.
For some of the FX where I have made my own starting presets it's very helpful.
(And it's way better than it was before going native...)

The ilok stuff has gone to locally stored so is much better now and isn't needing to connect to the internet every time you start up.vitocorleone123 wrote: Sat May 24, 2025 7:54 pm I should've elaborated: the UAD installer, hassle, ilok, etc. isn't worth it for PolyMax in my view. I wouldn't use this as a reason no to get this plug in.

I think polymax is somewhere between the nice poly sounds a Juno, but with an extra oscillator, and the Arp Odyssey which has a cleaner sound.Rastkovic wrote: Sat May 24, 2025 7:30 pm Hmm, like many other KVR users, I have way too much plugins too. It's also it's own thing though, perhaps too clean for some uses, but it's fantastic sounding for what it covers.

The oscillator sync, FM, 12/24 dB filter and dual envelopes take it well past Juno territory. More like a Jupiter 8 in my mind._leras wrote: Sun May 25, 2025 1:00 am I think polymax is somewhere between the nice poly sounds a Juno, but with an extra oscillator, and the Arp Odyssey which has a cleaner sound...

Yes but how does UA expect me to go through all that trouble to find them and then figure out how to switch them, just so their synth is useable??slackhead wrote: Sun May 25, 2025 5:25 amThere are some alternative skins floating aroundconcealed identity wrote: Sat May 24, 2025 8:59 pm The shade of green they use for the Mono and Legato buttons is kind of ugly. (I'm actually kind of curious what people wanted to change, so I'll check 'em out, thanks)

I wonder how many beta testers told UAD that the synth was unusable due to the two green buttons?

Just curious how people would say this compares to Super 8 for sound quality? I have both, but am wondering how others feel.
Edit: nevermind, there are some earlier posts about this

I was meaning tonally, but you're right it's specd pretty much like a Jupiter 8.slackhead wrote: Sun May 25, 2025 5:22 amThe oscillator sync, FM, 12/24 dB filter and dual envelopes take it well past Juno territory. The sounds perhaps a bit more modern/precise which is why I said like an Arp Odyssey, but it's not quite like that either.
