That's correct, it doesn't need it anymore. I just installed one of them a minute ago and it loaded up in the DAW soon after. RC is not running.ChamomileShark wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 9:50 pmWhen they discontinued the Concerto products they gave them away and took off the need for the Cloud Manager (I think).Trancer wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 2:59 pm
My fear is that at some point, if the Cloud does not bring in enough money, Roland will remove it without notice.
To do this, no more access to anything since subscription, rental.

When they discontinued the Sound Canvas plugin just a few weeks ago, they did not give it away they sold it knowing it had massive issues, issues that were so bad they threw up their hands and said they couldn't fix it up until the literal moment it disappearedChamomileShark wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 9:50 pmWhen they discontinued the Concerto products they gave them away and took off the need for the Cloud Manager (I think).Trancer wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 2:59 pm

As far as I can see the only danger is if they stop updating stuff so that they become unusable on newer PC or Mac OS, or DAW requirements.
But that can happen anytime even with big companies (e.g NI have dropped numerous popular products, PPG was sold to PA and you can't now install etc etc.)
There is no replacement for Sound Canvas sounds, one of the best selling Synthesizers of all time for Roland, a product line that defined a generation of PC based music and video games is just gone
The Concerto products were mainly samples from instruments that later got a full plugin

Didn't try and download this or install it but it appears Roland India still has Sound Canvas for download.

interesting that is the Demo for a VST2 from Roland India that doesn't need the Roland cloud just a serial number, which makes it even shittier that Roland killed it from the Cloud, I have a lifetime key but can't use it because RCM is unstableN 4 LIFE wrote: Mon Sep 30, 2024 1:09 am Didn't try and download this or install it but it appears Roland India still has Sound Canvas for download.

But there is a version that was sold in India that doesn't need the RCM software just a serial number
I will have to poke around when I get home with a virtual machine and a VPN with an Indian IP
You can find the Windows and Mac Installers here
https://in.roland.com/products/sound_ca ... downloads/
and it will install the VST2 DLL file. As a Demo there is a 10 minute limit. Just enough time to auto sample it

...Just popping my head in to say I am still hopeful about seeing more soft-synths released from Roland in the near future!
Hopeful for, but far from "expecting to."
I know, there was the Space Echo and the Earth Piano, and maybe those are products that rile up Roland's money-making base (which IMO is NOT on KVR), but I hope they don't forget the small-but-passionate group of gearheads like us who still want more synths!
I'll break from tradition and say that I don't just mean models of classics (though I would still love those): I'd actually also love to see software versions of the "SH-4" model from the SH-4d, the synth behind the GAIA-2, and --<gasp>-- an evolution of the System-8! ...It remains one of my favorite synths, despite its limitations, but *man* I would love to see that synth with a second LFO (even if it were dedicated to vibrato, just to free up LFO1 for other duties) and more "non-linear" analog goodness. (Even if that just means adding some variety to the drive on the filter.) ...And maybe also a revamping of the effects section: not that I dislike the effects, but they have VERY weird "amount" scaling; there needs to be a TON more room at the bottom of the dial to add subtlety. Even a value of "1" is too much in some cases! ...and while the Reverb algos aren't horrible, it sure would be nice to have some better ones in there.
Also, pro-tip, John: if you wanna sell more System-8 mkIIs, add a "tape" effect to the second slot: the amount would roll in a combination of wow, flutter, (a little) noise, and high- and low-rolloff. The System-8 sounds lend themselves VERY well to that "aged lo-fi" vibe, it would be very popular!
And, hey, if for some reason Roland actually considers a hardware version of the System-8 mkII, for the love of all that's holy, put in a good keyboard. I sold my System-8 a year ago because I couldn't stand those keys, they really dragged down the whole synth and I found myself just using the software because of it. Don't skimp on the keyboard, guys!
And, of course, I'm on board with the litany of classic synths to model ITB: still plenty left from the SH series to do, gotta get a V-Synth someday, of course it would be great to have the JX-8P and the Juipter-6... and dare I even dream about a System 500 in the box? Nahhhhhh... (or a 100-M?!?! HEAVENS PRESERVE US!)
EDIT: I forgot about the JP-8080. Would love to see that, too!
Anyway. Just wanted to add a tiny bit of positivity to the thread. There's still hope.
I just wish there was room for expectation. :'(

The SH-4D Engine/Models is the same as Zenology Pro's VA Engine and the only difference is the slighty Darker Filter in the SH-4D and the Layout of the different Models.Introspective wrote: Mon Sep 30, 2024 12:35 pm ...Just popping my head in to say I am still hopeful about seeing more soft-synths released from Roland in the near future!

A V-Synth, Jupiter 6 and A JP8080 would be awesome

The Roland lineup looks interesting to me, but I get confused by their cloud/web market and approach to sales. Plus the designs look like they are out of Windows XP era.
They need to simplify the UI of their products, marketplace and explain more what is compatible within the marketplace. It reminds me of an asian MMO UI. Tons of options not directly decipherable on the surface (at least for me).
This is probably due to them not really being a software company. But I would be happy if they hired someone from the west and also from the pro audio software world for their UI and marketing efforts.

Return after more intensive use.
Everything works perfectly.
Even really surprised that with a six year old i7 PC, I opened 10 instances of Galaxias in Live without any problem.
In this regard, not finding how to enlarge the vst (juno 106, Jupiter 8, Sh 101, etc...) in Live when using it as a single vst.
By that I mean, just use them with Galaxias, no worries about enlargement.
Indeed, it would really be a wonderful idea if Roland finally decided to release the V Synth and the JP 8080.
If there was a System 8 Mk2 with a 61-note keyboard and above all a keyboard worthy of the name and to have at least the possibility of being able to load at least 6 plugouts that would be perfect.

I can't imagine ANYONE is excited about either. When it comes to Space Echo that has been done to death, I can't imagine anyone who is interested in that sound who doesn't have it already. I have like four or more and never actually purchased one, they came in bundles or were freeware. Who is dropping $200 on one when the excellent sounding Arturia one is $99, and the UAD one which is stunning is $50Introspective wrote: Mon Sep 30, 2024 12:35 pm I know, there was the Space Echo and the Earth Piano, and maybe those are products that rile up Roland's money-making base (which IMO is NOT on KVR)
The biggest disappointment has to be Earth Piano. Roland make world class digital pianos. The current V Piano used in their higher end digital pianos is stunning, the Supernatural Piano engine is also pretty amazing. I gigged countless dates using my 88 key Motif along with my Integra 7 for the Supernatural Piano sounds.
Roland could have ported Supernatural Piano or V Piano over to the cloud, but didn't and that is damn shame
There already are amazing pianos in the Cloud, there are dedicated SRX instruments and all of those are inside of Zenology as well. They were sampled by and designed by Eric Persing and still sound pretty damned good several decades later
If you just want a piano sound that sits well in a mix, the Piano Presets in XV5080/JV1080 also sound really nice, especially for a pop music context. Many hit records and sound tracks from the 1990s used them after all

Earth is going to be it's own thing as it has it's own tab in the RCMN 4 LIFE wrote: Tue Oct 01, 2024 1:29 am Agreed. The Earth Piano needs to be the Below Earth piano....a swift burial would be nice.
I truly could not believe how bad it sounded.
I actually think Earth Piano is just SRX sampled piano content with two Impulse Response Reverbs/effects added. One for the lid, and one for the room size. My guess is they will go to the SRX well and give us all kinds of instruments with different impulse responses, maybe even Shimmer, Pitch Shifting, Granular (so they can rip off Arturia Augmented) etc and call it "Earth". Maybe even toss in things like "Asia" with Asian Instruments
The question will be how far do they take it? Will they recycle the Concerto samples and have "D50 Earth" using the presets from the D50, will they go to the Jupiter 8 well yet again and have "Jupiter Earth"?
They are like a rock band from the 1980s that keeps on releasing different greatest hits CDs
