Not if Apple made them a "take it or leave it" ultimatummysticvibes wrote:So it seems some people are thinking if it was a mac buyout its possible alchemy 2 won't be released. That they will be assigned entirely new jobs and not into the little audio production market there is for mac. Why then take down all the vstis and samplepacks then? If CA were in fact motivated by money, wouldn't they squeeze in the benefits from an Alchemy 2 release before they joined apple?

I'm asking why would apple make them not release alchemy 2 for them to have a job not even in the audio industry?fmr wrote:Not if Apple made them a "take it or leave it" ultimatummysticvibes wrote:So it seems some people are thinking if it was a mac buyout its possible alchemy 2 won't be released. Yeah, I don't get it. I own Cameleon2000, Camel Phat, Space and Alchemy. I never bought an expansion, but I would have surely purchased updates to all three of those plug-ins... and maybe even splurged for them if they did a fire sale (I always thought they were a bit too expensive).Bobbotov wrote:Would have been nice for some forewarning so people could purchase product(s) before the door closed. There were a couple of add on banks for Alchemy I wanted to get.
But no email... just a thread here on KVR based on a customer who accidentally found the info when logging in? That blows.

We have until July 7th to download and backup our licenses/software.
Guess what happens 2 days later? Summer NAMM.
I wonder if we have to wait until then to get an announcement...

A shrewd analysis. Also, Emagic was always Apple leaning: they first developed for the Motorola 68k processors which were in the Atari ST and early Macs; the PC side always felt like it was a market obligation for them. They also developed an alternative to ASIO called EASI which I believe became the foundation of Core Audio.beely wrote:emagic was a little different in that Apple wanted applications for musicians (they already had stuff for photographers, video editors, motion graphics and other creative apps) so they wanted an audio app codebase and development team that could develop the audio side - a consumer level app, and a pro level app.Dasheesh wrote:Same thing that happened to emagic
They talked to other DAW developers, I'd guess including Steinberg, and MOTU, but emagic was the best fit. They bought them, but *kept* the core product, Logic, and killed everything else (hardware, SoundDiver etc).
Then they set about taking Logic's core engine and building a consumer version (Garageband) and then moving both apps forward.
So in the case of emagic, they definitely did want the product as well as the IP and engineering talent. If the case of Redmatica, they didn't want the products - Apple aren't interested in small, core niche apps for niche markets, they are interested in engineering talent and large markets.
It's harder than you think to get really good skilled developers and it is a big problem for Apple. And they can be pretty persuasive when they want something. As for Ben - he would get a nice windfall, and a new life working as a senior developer and manager, a great salary, probably a new country and the chance to work on great products with a wide market penetration and with some of the best people and resources in the world.
*If* that is what has happened - which we still don't know at this stage...
I tend to lean towards the Apple takeover as well: the sudden rigorous lockdown of information, the absolute deadline, and the disappearing threads is pretty much Apple's MO. They seem to like that cloak and dagger stuff. With some of the deepest pockets on the planet, they have a lot to offer competent and innovative developers.
When Emagic got absorbed, I remember everyone there getting a brand new Mac Pro. I cursed them for a decade, as my finances wouldn't let me move forward with my favorite DAW (did PC 5.5 for a while). That's how I became a Cubendo user. I sure hope I'm wrong; I would hate to see Alchemy disappear down that rabbit hole as well...

Good grief! When an announcement is made. Doesn't have to be on this thread now does it? The info will get out there and we'll know.Kriminal wrote:Yeah, cos im sure this thread is the first place they will make onebeely wrote:Then I suggest you leave the thread and come back when there is a formal announcement made.![]()
Personally I hope it isn't Apple, but hey, when a fricken announcement is made (you know, out there in the world at large), then we'll have some facts, won't we?Kriminal wrote:relax, untwist those knickers, its not important....i mean nearly 50 pages, c'mon, its like you're all trying to make yourt worst nightmare come true (apple buying Camel)

Maybe it's Cakewalk, and not Apple or Steinberg.
Who knows.
Who knows.
