Was it this one? If I remember right, she explains a few things incorrectly but this one I remember her passing acoustic stuff through it.vurt wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 2:56 pm re the pt
at first i was in the same boat, but there was one of the videos with harper, explaining using the agitation as an oscillator, helped me understand why they went with the range they chose.
it made more sense imo as he explains, it's not really a synth with a filter and delay, they are all there to be parts of the synth sounds.
although, i have had some nice dubby delay with it, but it's more useful to me adding texture rather than echoes.
i know you also have some acoustic stuff and contacts, it's amazing how much fun you can have just scratching around on a table, with a contact mic into koma/strega
and yes, i too found it quite eye opening just how much is possible with it, i expected to love it purely for the noisy type of stuff but there is so much more, definitely recommend the make noise videos.
plenty of other videos too, there's a girl who does more acoustic instruments in to it, she gets some lovely non noise stuff from it, but can't remember her name off the top of my head![]()

yep! that's the one
yeah the make noise ones are best for getting to know the functions, but for the acoustic demo, so far hers is the only really good one ive seen, although make noise do a mic input one that gets weird

Definitely gonna try that!vurt wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 2:56 pm i know you also have some acoustic stuff and contacts, it's amazing how much fun you can have just scratching around on a table, with a contact mic into koma/strega
Also I've seen some other people saying the range on the delay goes WAY beyond the knobs if you use the unattenuated CV input, and people have done some Karplus-Strong stuff with the delay.
I also figure the noise can feed Rings, comb filters, SpecOps, or AM/ringmod vs. a sine, like I sometimes do with Manis Iteritas -- let the noise rip but then wrestle it back to almost under control.

That is an interesting looking bass, I'd like to get a nice bass, but I know I would spend 100 % of the time trying to play like the guy from Primus and nothing else. Not to mention that's a whole other can of worms and gear.

dunno about slapping per se, but it does look like it could be used with some sort of tapping technique, strings look closer together and less fat than normal bass?pekbro wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 5:51 pm That is an interesting looking bass, I'd like to get a nice bass, but I know I would spend 100 % of the time trying to play like the guy from Primus and nothing else. but even alone, or with the full 3, and maybe an additional delay, it's pretty much all ive touched since getting them, and had no real desires or needs, only purchase has been that doepfer synth voice, and that was just impulse.
i just find myself getting lost in simple patches across the trilogy, so much scope on such a small scale.
and little things like the input to cv, or envelope follower, means the contact mic can become a gate trigger for a noisy snare for example...
just another little idea

Yeah, i just meant bass in general, the one in the pic looks a little too complex for any bass exploits on my part.vurt wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 6:34 pmdunno about slapping per se, but it does look like it could be used with some sort of tapping technique, strings look closer together and less fat than normal bass?pekbro wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 5:51 pm That is an interesting looking bass, I'd like to get a nice bass, but I know I would spend 100 % of the time trying to play like the guy from Primus and nothing else. mine are similar to my usual guitar exploits, drowned in so much fx that no one would know it's a basspekbro wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 6:56 pmYeah, i just meant bass in general, the one in the pic looks a little too complex for any bass exploits on my part.vurt wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 6:34 pmdunno about slapping per se, but it does look like it could be used with some sort of tapping technique, strings look closer together and less fat than normal bass?pekbro wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 5:51 pm That is an interesting looking bass, I'd like to get a nice bass, but I know I would spend 100 % of the time trying to play like the guy from Primus and nothing else. helps disguise the total lack of rhythm or ability to play the instrument

Bass is the only instrument I know how to play reasonably well. I try to put some electric bass into every track I do but it's not always evident. I'm not a very sophisticated player, I don't do much slapping or tapping but Les Claypool was a big influence. I use three fingers on my picking hand (couldn't think of a way to phrase this such that it won't end up in the out-of-context thread, lol).
I used to have a really nice Gibson Thunderbird bass but I sold that when I first got started with my modular. Currently I use a Ibanez GR500 but only because my preference is for narrow necks, light bodies and active electronics. I'd like to get a Rickenbacker but one of my favorite basses in terms of tone an play-ability was an old Danelectro. It was just so much fun. I'm not really into exotic basses.

If you cut off a regular bass at the 12th fret, that's where this one is. 16" scale length instead of 34", an octave up from standard bass tuning.vurt wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 6:34 pm dunno about slapping per se, but it does look like it could be used with some sort of tapping technique, strings look closer together and less fat than normal bass?

They have 18" ones where you can use standard bass tuning or somewhere in between, depending on the strings.
These are supposed to be really good for tapping and chords and unusual bass playing techniques, somewhere between bass and guitar really.
I find bass easier to get my head around and actually play than guitar. Also I'm finding it works pretty nicely for ambient/drone/weird stuff

yeah like i said, looks good for tapping, reminded me of a stick, albeit shorter and less strings, has that vibe!
ive never really had the left hand strength, for fretting the strings. which has only got much worse since the nerve damage.
have to use two fingers to fret. and then move, next fret, press!
so like i said above, tend to drown it, but yep, makes lovely drones!
i like playing it cello like sometimes
