When I first wrote it out it wasn't all shouty - that's down to the 'translator'.

CLUE: It's not Polish

CLUE: The title of a WHO song covered by a punk band might suggest a way to unlock the text's meaning.

VM!

Bloody hell - that was hard work! And no, I didn't use any special tools, I did it the hard way. The most frustrating bit wasn't working out what it said, but what it meant!

Anyway, 10,000 extra points to me, and it's my go:

---

I am a bassist and singer: at first I could have been a saint, or just a sexually confused Irishman; latterly I became a Kentish maid, but it sounds like I could be a man, but not a saint*.

I am a guitarist: I'm already a saint, possibly the patron saint of youthful marsupials.

I am a guitarist and singer: I could be a saint, but if I was, it sounds like I would be an evil one.

I am a drummer: I could also be a saint - one who adores Tolkien, or maybe Wagner?

*Unless I was Korean, but that's disputable.

Who are we, collectively?

Well, if you did it the hard way you certainly deserve your 10,000 points, and more - I expected someone might use an online cipher breaker. In fact, I'm that impressed that I think you really should have googolplex points for that. ;)

I do those code-breaker type crosswords occasionally, that helps; I've got a fairly good grip on language, if not reality!

Clues needed? Or just no-one out there..?

I'll take that as a "no". Back in about 10 hours.

The Pixies

Correct! (Couldn't sleep. Too hot.)

1. Kim Deal, who was originally credited as "Mrs. John Murphy". Deal is a town in Kent. Kim can also be a man's name. There are lots of St. John's. There's also a Korean Saint Andrew Kim Taegon, although whether he's an Andrew or a Kim is up for debate.

2. Joey Santiago. Santiago means St. James. Joey's are young kangaroos.

3. Black Francis...the evil saint?

4. David Lovering (love-ring). St. David, who loves the Ring Trilogy, or possibly Der Ring des Nibelungen.

Not my best question I'll admit, but at least I can sleep now (if it wasn't so bloody hot).

Robojam, the floor is yours...

Right then.

John, Frank, Terence and William were members of a popular 1970s beat combo. Who are they better known as?

Post

The Wombles?

Ok I haven't got a clue
:D

Post

I'll add a little more - they started out in the late 60s and had the same lineup for about 10 years. The band continued after the singer left with a new singer, but the name above represent the 'classic' lineup.

Post

Still nothing?

OK, John in the vocalist, Frank is the guitarist, Terence is the bass player, and William is the drummer.
