The big deal with the USB cable seems to be (if I understand correctly) the length of the plugin part, not so much the length of the entire cable. I say this because so many problems with power outage and the UF get solved by using either the supplied cable or a longer high quality cable with the same really deep setting "plug". Even a 10-12 foot cable should work if the cable has this feature...make sure that sucker is really in there, ya know? Compare what you're using (going into the UF) with other USB-type connects...is it a shorty or does it look super long...
The USB cable included with my UF5 has clear plastic allowing me to see the wire-weave beneath...don't know if that would help ID your cable and/or problem?

I have the exact same cable and it works just fine, but it's just too short for my set up, and the extension obviously causes the problems. Solution is to use midi only so it's no big deal, untill I need more midi ports..bobsled wrote:The USB cable included with my UF5 has clear plastic allowing me to see the wire-weave beneath...don't know if that would help ID your cable and/or problem?

How strange. Mine is old-fashioned IBM PC putty-colored, grip about like my other USB cables. *shrug* Dunno. I need a USB hub anyway, for other stuff, so might as well spring for one out of the next paycheck.

Oops...bobsled wrote:The big deal with the USB cable seems to be (if I understand correctly) the length of the plugin part, not so much the length of the entire cable...
I was wrong about that..."the big deal" looks more like this...
1. Use the supplied USB cable or a short replacement cable.
2. Don't use a USB hub.
3. Don't use an extension.
4. Do plug the UF directly into your computer.
5. For both USB and MIDI cables...be aware of the deep sockets these cables will have to reach into. Make sure that the cables you purchase for the UF have nice long plugs.

My UF5 works just fine (got it just yesterday though). I'm using it with USB (I have an about 12 ft USB long-plug cable that I found years and years ago).
No dropped notes so far, but the Transport buttons don't work with Cubase/FL Studio. Yes, they each have its own CC number, I think it starts at like 115 to 119 or something like that.
Thing is, your DAW needs to be able to changes its numbers, unless you can modify those keys' sysex as far as I can tell (seems impossible in the UF Editor (Which is in beta -_-) and Midiox's interface isn't an angel either).
I still haven't used the keyboard with the MIDI cable, but I'll do that once I get one of them.
For me it was also a huge b***h to set the knobs right in various VSTs (maybe because FL studio sucks in that area and I'm also a Cubase n00b). Somehow the last 4 knobs had the same CC numbers set up O.o. So far this morning though everything works fine.
I must also say the sliders seem to feel pretty good since a lot of people complained about them.
And yeah, their USB cable is short as heck :\

It's relatively easy to make the buttons work in cubase. You just need to download the 'generic remote' templates from the CME website.robohoe wrote:No dropped notes so far, but the Transport buttons don't work with Cubase/FL Studio. Yes, they each have its own CC number, I think it starts at like 115 to 119 or something like that.
then make a generic remote in cubase device panel, and load the template and setup the correct midi channels.
it should then work.
I've no clue how to do this in FL.

Same here. I'm going for the Novation line. They seem incredibly well built and I really like the feel of the keys. Too bad it also costs a fortune.bobsled wrote:bullshark,

Ah, thanks, just got it to work
Seems like there are no templates for FL Studio, but oh well. Maybe sometime in the future....One can only hope

For the transport, if you open the Cubase and Nuendo templates, which are XML files, in notepad, you can see what is going on. It's very simple, they assign controllers 115-119 to the transport. That's what the PC USB drivers 1.04 and 1.05 make them into. There should be a way in most DAWs to do that "by hand". I just got a UF8 and will post as soon as I figure out what the raw MIDI data they send is and whether it can be mapped easily.
(BTW we should be mentioning which version of USB driver we are using and if PC or Mac.)

Very happy with my UF8 after a few teething difficulties. Drivers were an issue, but I'm using it through MIDI now (USB's hardly an issue for such a non-portable keyboard) and it's a rock-solid performer. FLStudio has a CME template already set up - it's in the controller types list under MIDI Settings.

I'm having to keep revising this because for some reason the system says my post seems "spammy"!? I wanted to ask what ultimately was the USB problem? Even with the 1.05 driver and short/deep cable?XDVarenkor wrote:Very happy with my UF8 after a few teething difficulties. I had problems with 'latency' when using USB (not audio latency, but some sort of delay in the MIDI transmission) - no problem at all using MIDI connection. Other than that, I had some stuck note problems caused by the hammer action of some keys having settled in transit, and a few days' scale practice sorted that. I was initially disappointed not to be able to use USB, but when the keyboard weighs as much as I do an interface is hardly an inconvenience...
