I my opinion there are a lot of great sounding compressors. I love the Audio Damages ones, because you can really hear the artifacts. And I love Reason's new effects, they are my favorites.

The cool thing about the real analogue 1176 was that it was smooth, but this is easy to achieve within software (look ahead function).

But in general I think it's not good to look back too much, but rather focus on new possibilities of software. UAD is cool and they are like offering the past in software. But there's nothing to stop you from going beyond that and start creating new sounds!

i know this album does not have a very good mix - but keep in mind that some of the stuff is done more than two years ago. At this time i had not so much experience (=no experience)
about mastering, proper use of compressors, eq and so on. And my UAD was far away.
If i ever get my new album or ep done you'll hear way better sound

u get an DSP Card and several very useful and good sound plugs. The additional ones aer also not really expensive. Not cheap - but for the quality and useability they offer the price is more than justified.

yep, it's really a lot of bang for the bucks!

native/VST alternative for UAD 1176?
