Well, if they were all kept to "10-20 second breakbeats" like you asked and were perfect loops, it might be interesting to have another iteration of mangling - maybe just keep breaking down the breakbeats... I don't know... Just an academic exercise to see how things would evolve with each generation.

At the same time, I would love to hear what kind of songs you or other people would make from these. Some already have. I'd be up for trying to compose something incorporating some of these loops.

that really could be pretty cool, particularly considering the wide variety of styles. though the really big challenge would be to compose something using all of the loops.

You mean something enjoyable with all the loops?

I've done my fair share of mashups and mixes with loops from other people's songs, but I don't know if using everything (even if it's all so processed and manipulated, you wouldn't recognize it) is in the best interest of most songs. Though I'd be willing to try...

In order to do that, we'd need to have a cut-off of loop submissions before it gets out of hand. And I don't want to be the only one attempting this. Anyone else game?

Possibly.
'twould mean converting many of the loops to wav though, to import into Orion - dunno if other hosts let you load mp3's?
But then, they're short so shouldn't take too long to convert.
Could be an interesting experiment though, especially as breaks isn't my usual style or preffered choice.

A cut-off point for loops would be a good idea, yes, so as to make sure we've (whoever's up for it) got everything. And possibly an upper limit on tune/mash-up length?

Would other instrumentation be allowed? Or just, again, using the beats here?

If I had the time and if my music machine was back up allready, I'd love fooling around with it some more as well (didn't do any cutting or slicing so far), but hey... time will come.

If you have to use all* the loops, then you might as well use only the loops. Not that it means much with all the ways sound can be mangled these days. I wouldn't mind being able to use other instruments - especially if I thought of adding a vocal or guitar track - but being limited to only the submitted breaks has a certain appeal. It sounds like a few extra sounds may have already creeped into some loops...

Length isn't a big deal to me. I just hate non-direct links.

* I count 42 loops (including Sascha Franck's) but haven't been able to download dover666's.

Question: Isn't there a free easy-to-use plug-iin for removing DC offset? I've wrangled a 6 minute song out of all this stuff but I've got a few pesky samples that need taming...

I figured it out. I just didn't want to convert files from MP3 to an uncompressed format. Oh well.

Trying to mix this much noisy stuff, every bit of headroom counts.
