you've got a sale here Torben
I've got it sounding loud without introducing distortion or pumping, so I didn't think twice about buying it. Top quality limiter

Probably not - even we did not think about sending MIDI notes to the MPL-1IIRs wrote:Anyone else get crackles and cpu spikes when sending MIDI notes to this plug?

Torben wrote: Probably not - even we did not think about sending MIDI notes to the MPL-1But you are right. The "problem" was easily fixed and will be in the next version; until then just don't send MIDI notes to it. It only responds to MIDI CC, and that works.
.. in case anyonne needs a workaround: you can block MIDI data using a rack with its audio inputs wired directly to its audio outputs, and its MIDI left unconnected.

one more thing, in the manual two of the icons listed near the beginning (idea + warning) aren't used so could be removed. The manual is written pretty well too so well done, although some of the terminology could be explained better for beginners. Although, beginners should stay away from mastering anyway, but it wouldn't hurt to explain some terms a little. In my situation, I'm always going to leave mastering to experts, but I use limiters to make my music louder for demos etc

[Haven't had time to read the thread, so this may have already been covered...don't know]...
...but...
I hate to say it...it's better than Precision Limiter.
I A/B'd them both on a project that has a loud bass (the song calls for big bass) & piercing lead vocals & lead guitar.
PL warms (as in, dulls) the highs...MPL-1 does not [it does alter the highs, but much less than PL or Elephant (which I also tested)...& the bite still comes thru.]
I think the most astounding difference was how well MPL-1 handled the bass. There was no change in the sound, except maybe a bit more solid. With PL, the bass breaks up a little in spots, or is a little muddy in spots.
MPL-1 gets my vote...I like it, I like it.

P.S. Not so sure I understood the significance of test #3 at their site, tho...was supposed to be 20Hz, 40Hz & white noise...I only heard white noise. Check it out:

MPL listens more transparent to my ears then Voxengo Elephant. Very nice limiter, the best I've tested! Not so sure for the Pro-Version, this time I cannot say that I need the extra things.
Would be great to see in the future some presets. Is there a chance to implement mousewheel-support?

That is a good point, but they are icons Torben is using in his manuals as a general key (see the Spectra manual as well), so they could be seen as a kind of cross-manual Kjaerhus system for reading and structuring the manual (IMO a very good one), only some of which are used in this particular manual.scam_artist wrote:one more thing, in the manual two of the icons listed near the beginning (idea + warning) aren't used so could be removed.

Anyone willing/able to put MPL-1 up against EA's Finis? I'll be waiting on the AU of MPL-1, but in the mean time if anyone can compare these two I'd be much obliged.

I'm in just the same boat. I love the quality and sound of MPL-1, so yes I will be buying it (not Elephant at this stage... I was choosing between the two).4damind wrote:MPL listens more transparent to my ears then Voxengo Elephant. Very nice limiter, the best I've tested! BUT I'm not sure whether to get the standard or "Pro" version. The price of the Pro version is very reasonable for the product anyway (especially as I am a previous customer) but in spite of that I'm not sure whether I will use the additional features. At this stage I suspect not, as I am a laptop based musician who simply wants to maximise recordings and get them to sound "professional".
I guess I need to read the manual more. If I really understood better what the additional features in the Pro version do, then I could tell whether the extra cost is a useful investment for me or not. Maybe the extras are just aimed at professional mastering houses?
Torben, will there be an upgrade path from the Standard to Professional versions, should I make the wrong choice?
And like others have commented, I want those presets as soon as possible please!!
Cheers Torben!

Asking for presets for a mastering limiter should immediately disqualify you from owning one IMO

Yeah, I get where you're coming from, but as I said before I just want to maximise tracks (and I'm just a duffer). It's not that I'm trying to put high-end mastering studios out of business or anything - but as a musician I want demos/etc to sound good. Also stuff like recordings of pupils - it makes a real difference if the CD you give them sounds like a rounded recording put out at a good overall level.IIRs wrote:Asking for presets for a mastering limiter should immediately disqualify you from owning one IMO
So basically I need all the help I can get
One real attraction of Elephant was that it provided presets that cut through the professional mystique and made it possible for ordinary musicians to select a starting point from which to tweak if desired. The different presets offered have a pronounced difference in terms of being more suited to different material. That's helpful, and has to be a good thing surely?
Anyway, Torben already said he plans to do something similar in the next MPL-1 update, which has helped me with my decision

Reading this will do you more good than a bunch of arbitrarily named presets..

It always the big question how much you should explain in the manual and what one should read in a theory book. But I will see if there are spots that could be better covered.scam_artist wrote:The manual is written pretty well too so well done, although some of the terminology could be explained better for beginners.
Not planned at the moment but you are not the only one asking so maybe.4damind wrote:Is there a chance to implement mousewheel-support?
Not planned at the moment. Regarding presets it would be possible to make more of those on the pro edition as it got more options.headquest wrote:Torben, will there be an upgrade path from the Standard to Professional versions, should I make the wrong choice?
