So is anyone ready to REALLY recommend Kore? I'm on vacation in Denmark this week and the price here is about 20% cheaper than back home. It's about 4000 DKK, which I think is about $650 USD. The price home is even higher than I was quoted - they said $700 but it was closer to 800...

I just read the review in Future Music (July issue) and it was pretty raving. But I still can't decide if this is something I really need. What might do it is the free update to K3 since I have K2.

but would you recommend it to someone who doesn't own any prior NI licenses and will probably not in the future, either?
i don't even have a decent soundcard, so that'd be another plus for me. the dongle bit doesn't bother me much, since i don't have a laptop and can leave it plugged in. although if the controller broke that would really suck.

am i right in guessing that NI's large user base may have good potential for building a library of kore sounds for non-NI vst?
oh, btw - maybe a stupid question, but does it support effects as well as instruments? if yes, how does it take care of routing and such?

the higher resolution of the controller is another plus. oh well, i'll still have to see. i do not make create music for a living, so investments in the audio area are just a hobby.

i'd love a nice immediate controller, though...
gah, i might get it eventually. any thoughts are welcome, although in the end i'll have to make that decision myself, anyway.

Absolutely. While I do own a large amount of NI stuff, my non-NI plugins outnumber my NI plugins by a considerable margin. I've got KORE sounds saved for a bunch of third party stuff such as Rhino, Zebra, TERA 2 and 3, Cameleon... the list goes on. It's dead easy to make controller assignments, and a template saved as a KORE sound for a plugin makes automating a breeze- load the KORE sound and call up the patch you want.

Yep, you are. See aMUSEd's thread on KORE templates in the instruments forum... there's contributions from him, bluedad and myself so far.

Yes it does. You can either drop the effect in an effects slot in the sound (there's four slots), or set it up as either a send or group channel. Note that a send or group channel's the only way to load or save an effect by itself as a KORE sound. Otherwise, if you're using it on one of the four insert slots, the controller assignments for the effect will be saved as part of the KORE sound relating to the instrument.

The problem spot for me is NI. I had major problems with K2 installation, and also when I sold Reaktor after getting K2, and I think they handled the user response pretty badly when they did the K2->K3 upgrade. So I had actually decided to never again buy anything big from them...

What I really need is a new controller, like the M-Audio Axion, Novation SL or something like that. Kore is however very very interesting but I can't afford both so it's a tough call...

i am loving the KORE. in terms of callign up quick presets its great. in terms of sculpting a sound, its never been easier for me. and this is just with tinkering for few min here and there. i havent touched the surface yet. i still need to download the templates from ew and what not. but id defintly sugest this thing. also i dont know where u all live, but if you are in teh USA then the Kore online goes for $500 - the one post showed 700USD. check out sweetwater, zzounds, or just froogle it.

I live in Norway. The price is 5000 NOK, which comes out to over $800.

if you need the audio interface, it may be a worthwhile investment. if you don't need the audio interface, then why spend so much money for a bit of convenience? You can get an audio interface much cheaper than this.

I have Live and a handful of synths. I have no trouble calling up presets, creating complex sounds and making music. KORE is a solution to a problem I don't have.

I'd say save your money.

I have had no problems with Kore and I'd highly recommend it. It makes it much easier to very quickly edit your VST's without having to map everything to a controller. I have not tried to use the 3rd party maps, but it automatically generates a sometimes useful mapping from the parameter list of these anyway.

It only cost me $500 at Guitar Center, totally worth it in my opinion, I'm selling my BCR2000 because it A. feels like junk next to the Kore controller, and B. is much harder to program and actually be useful.

Just my $.02.
