Would you consider buying a complete version of this?

No. Old crap. Who needs it?

No. Got the original. Much better 8)

Maybe, but I don't see the sense in emulating old technology, with so many better VSTis around

How can I load a new bank in the synth?
When I try to load a bank then nothing happens in Cubase 4. I still hear the default bank.

Post

Ooops...

Does it mean that Logic doesn't support VST2.4...???
SDK2.3 version works fine.

Thanks!!!

Post

Gucky, just touch the numeric pad, it changes the presets.

Post

Hi wikter,
thanks for your answer. But it is not my problem to change the presets. That can I do. But I want to load some of the banks that are on the homepage of Wavesim. And that works not for me.
Any idea?

Post

Well... no idea at all, I've loaded them from the file menu, but I haven't really found a big difference between banks. MAybe tweaking, saving and comparing will show you the way.

Post

...well, I've tested again and I've seen that some sounds on these banks are the same. I can notice a difference on timbres on initial presets, but I've found no difference around patch 20.

In fact, I've seen with chainer that it needs 12% of my cpu to make the Chip emulator work, and a cheaper 3% to reach the 8 voice limit... 15% using 8 voices.

ChamomileShark wrote:Thanks arakula, you probably didn't see my edit..I found that the sound programdoesn't save in Cubase SX3, when the project comes back up it reverts to the first sound in the bank. I usually create my own presets and just hit store preset, that doesn't seem to work in Cubase..but I may not be using it correctly, it just acts differently to the other vsts i have.
Hehehe... gotcha 8-)

Please keep in mind that this thing emulates a real synthesizer.
That means, it acts exactly like the original.

To store programs, you have to press the "DATAT" button (or move the cursor to the DTF: field on the PROGRAM panel with the <- and -> buttons) and enter "9" there. Then, press the PROGRAM button and enter a 2-digit program number where you want to store the program to. This tells the Wave to keep the current program at the given position.

As soon as you did that, it will be part of any .fxb file (or Cubase project) from now on. The data stored in the .fxb file contain a complete machine description - SRAM, EPROM, knob positions, ... the complete synthesizer.

As soon as you load a bank into the 2.2V6, it sets up the virtual machine - and then boots up with the new settings.

Yes, it really boots up... do you know what a PPG Wave does when it boots? It does tons of internal checks and initializations, and then it starts with PROG: 1. Always. It doesn't remember the current program. You have to send it as a MIDI program change (but please wait at least 2 seconds after loading - it currently doesn't like it very much if the MIDI UART receives data before it has been initialized...) or enter it manually.
So, would it be best to save patches (fxp's) rather than banks (fxb's), so that we can specifically use the patch we want in our host? (since it only auto loads to the first patch on default.)

By the way, thanks for this great program!!!!!!! :-)

i know it's a nostalgia thing, but will the other version options ,2.3 etc, sound less lofi? my experience with synths (beyond casios) is vsti, so i don't have much nostalgia. i do however like the sound of a moog. if this "old" tech could be made to sound that smooth, that would make an interesting plug. again, i know it's nostalgia, but changing presets is a pain

i'm bad and haven't read the thread. pardon me if i'm beatin a dead horse

even the large pic of the gui is hard to read.

i run out of notes quickly.

it seems nostalgia is holdin this synth hostage

Depends.
As far as the internal wavetables go, no, since they all share the same wavetable EPROMs - which hold the wavetables in 8-bit format.
Using Waveterm C, however, generation of 12-bit wavetables is possible, which sound a bit less harsh.

If you want a thing that isn't burdened with strict compatibility to the original, the Waldorf Edition comes rather close.

Doesn't make any difference, since WaveSim exposes exactly one program, and that program contains a complete emulated machine. This emulated machine contains 100 internal programs, which are not directly accessible from the outside (i.e., selectable from the host); they can only be reached through MIDI messages (or by simulating the appropriate key presses through parameter automation, hee hee...).

..now that it can be easily read..
does it really say "velosity sensor" under the display on the original?

Post

It does... on the waldorf it says CONRTOL in stead of CONTROL so..

It's not an emulation if there is no spelling error.... :D
