the interviewer is not a bit a popularist, so is the magazine...

gui: check the videos. not so catastrophic imho. I still like working with LED's from the older days. not a real bad solution I think.

sound: Franke tells the cheap price compared to a Q or a microwave is only coz blofeld has no audio in, and only 1 audio out. the sound would be 100% the same. he fails a bit to explain the high price of the upcoming stromberg thu..
-> in my view, blofeld's cheap price is well calculated. imho waldorf hopes to make money coz I fear you pay for the label waldorf and not only for the synth's hardware. maybe blofeld is slightly overpriced, coz it is the cheapest way of having access to the I-got-expensive-synths-party

still not hardcore unfair I guess.

compare to: Alesis Ion/Micron, Roland SH-201, Yamaha DX-100, Korg Electribe or other ultracheap dance-synths. blofeld is a little more expensive but its ok, maybe an Evolver could be a better choice. the big hard/software question is boring... some people say, there is always a difference (1 machine, 1 function), sometimes (say, "true analogue filters"), or never (every sound is possible by win/mac-software synthesis)?

-> blofeld is interesting for beginners who like the waldorf sound, as said b4. if you own a lot of hardware or like computers, you won't need it.

I'm in a room with artificial lights - and if I scrolled through the above post at the right speed I got wierd static strobe like effects

basically its an improved microQ for a nice price, a better case, an LCD display which is an improvement too. the samll desktop case makes it nice for placing it beside your pc keyboard to tweak filter cutoff etc in realtime...

is very lush and big sounding..

I''m concidering buying one ...

and compared to most VSTis its free of the shitty sideeffects like aliasing ...

Nope, and I don't have to use it to know it's no good for me. I already said how I used and owned a whole chain of 80s S&S synths (both rack and keys) with very similar crappy GUIs and every single one was an abomination to program. Korgs, Rolands, Yamahas, Kurzweils, Akais - some of them sounded great but I sold every single one (or store them in the garage) except the Wavestation because I hated the interface. Unusable is unusable, no matter how they change the brand name. By your logic, I can't say I don't like a piece of piano music without being a classically trained pianist. I simply know by long and arduous experience that I won't use those tiny little LCD screens. I don't like them, don't want them and am not going to road test any more of them. If the uninitiated want to try them - be my guest, but I will never personally like or want one.

I think the original post was a question..."what do you think?". Are we only allowed to answer if we answer in a certain way now?

Blofeld seems an integration of Q and Microwave series as a brand new compact desktop synth. I like the demos, and with the attractive specs for 400 euro price, I will probably buy one, after some pro reviews are available.

Just for the record; after nearly two weeks since my last post to him in this thread the unpleasent creature with the username 'boimb' has just PM'd a series of threats to me, to both stalk and harass my presence at KVR, and force me to quit this site. This is presumably his 'revenge' for me describing him as a 'condescending twat' after he tried to imply I'd never used any hardware.
This threat has, of course, been forwarded to a moderator.

So just a warning to you folks; not only are some hardware zealots irrational about their preference, they are unstable enough to actively threaten and harangue you in private as well.

and as far as the threathening goes... i have posted my 'threat' i pm you to the mods also... if they think I crossed a line here, fine. i don't care theythrow me off this site. i would be surprised though...

everywhere i find an interesting subject you seemto pop up start making insults to people, judge there person like you are the pope. judging peples person fine (actually not), but having to insult them ...

i'm not saying i sometimes should have chosen my words more carefully, but you seem to make a sport out of this insulting and the surprising part of it is you actually getting away with this. seems you have a close band with the mods? or they just don't care i dunno.

i just keep encountering this everywhere and it drives me well, i felt i had to respond to this guy... luckily he finally backed off from that topic, when they just ignored him. i think that's the trick. i noticed this 'mute me' function, thank god for that!
