Having one global instrument just doesn't make sense. I predict they will stick to the one optimised instrument thing they're already doing, so that can choose controls/articulations etc based on the instrument at hand. SO, updates for Atmosphere and Trilogy for definite.
Personally I'd also love to see a Spectrasonics guitar instrument...

Same here.phraggle wrote:Waker wrote:...I'm still exploring Atmosphere and Stylus...
lol! Yeah, me too.
I had another look at some of the older Spectrasonic videos ...and you really get the feeling you could use the existing packages for years to come easily. The only problem might be the inevitable OS compatibility issue in future but even that would not really be an issue if one upgrades their OS every 3 - 5 years or so.
Perhaps the main interest for most Spectrasonics users (as far as the NAMM announcement is concerned) is mainly if this new plug or upgrade of an existing plug brings some new creative possibilities to the table.
I would be much more interested in an 80% focus on that and 20% on a larger soundset to play around with. I guess I hope the "possibilites" are more to do with creativity than content. Then again if RMX is anything to go by, this new plug should be another highly creative tool.
Yes. A "Spectrasonics Universal" plug (have I guessed right Eric?Broken wrote:Yes I'm leaning toward a new interface that will replace both Atmos and Trilogy. It makes sense if they want to start making xpanders for the rest of the spectrasonics sample libraries. I guess it's even possible that Stylus could be replaced by this as well - it would make future OS support an easier transition.

I think they will update Trilogy and Atmosphere at some point but the "Spectrasonics Universal" idea I think might be the big NAMM announcement...
NI have what appears to be a successful business model that supports different specific and focused synths along side a full on if you will "Universal" Sampler...Kontakt3. I am now starting to think that Spectrasonics might be interested in something along those lines. Perhaps a "Universal" plug that one can plug or import Atmos.,Tril. or RMX content into, with a Kontakt 3 level of support for other formats. Effectively an attempt to create their own industry standard Sampler offering.
As with NI...it would not stop Spectrasonics from updating their existing synth and drum line of products in future. Yes it is total speculation

A break down of the votes so far... (cheers guys...still a few days left for more votes)
Atmosphere 2 (99 votes)
Well this is clearly the overwhelming favourite. I guess the ad really does give the impression it is Atmosphere related.
Other... (41 votes)
I am surprised this category so far has the second highest number of votes! I really thought I had pretty much exhausted the possibilities with the options I gave for the poll but clearly I was quite wrong there. It would appear there are almost as many views on what this new plug is going to be as there are presets in Atmosphere!
Stylus RMX 3 (17 votes)
Another surprise for me here. It is not my first choice as a possibility but I thought more votes would fall under this category than probably the "Other" category, which has more than twice as many votes. I personally think the new plug will directly (in one way or another) have something to do with RMX. Eric I think could have let the RMX upgrade deal run for another month or so....
...but to end it before NAMM suggests whatever will be announced at NAMM will in some way be linked to RMX in some way or another...enough to want to perhaps not have an RMX expanded special upgrade deal running at the same timeas the new plugs features are known. It is a guess of course but that is just my theory.
A new Cinematic sound module (13 votes)
Judging by the audio demo's on the Spectrasonics site and the Hollywood images, their current offerings provide plenty of Cinematic possibilities but I think this category is one of the least likely possibilities but still with their Hollywood uptake already, something along those lines like a dedicated plug for Strings e.t.c could be the new Spectrasonics plug. Not my first choice, but not too far fetched either IMO.
Kontakt 3 rival (9 votes)
My first choice. I really think this is it. We shall see but I do believe Eric and co and looking to deliver something seriously...big in a few days time. Spectrasonics "Universal" Maybe...just maybe.
A whole new set of Spectrasonics xpanders (6 votes)
I guess now that Spectrasonics have made it clear it is one item (or at least it appears that way..."check it out") I guess this particular category seems highly unlikely to be a possibility for Thursdays announcement now.
A new Spectrasonics Orchestral product (5 votes)
Similar I think to the Cinematic sound module category in a way. I think a Spectrasonics Strings module is a good possibility but not my first choice. If they do go down this road it will probably be a very detailed effort.
A new Guitar focused product (4 votes)
I am surprised so few of you think this is a possibility. Trilogy covers some of the ground at the bass end but I would have thought there would be much more to explore in this area. It would be a nice addition to their current offerings as well. A good fit IMO. Perhaps it is not so much that many of you think they will not do it at all, but just not this time. "Stratosphere" is still one of my possible choices.
Trilogy 2 (Only 2 votes)
I think the advertisement really pushed this one into the background in terms of votes...only 2 ???
Some sort of Nine Volt Audio collab (1 vote)
I think Nine Volt Audio get a mention in the Bonus area within RMX. So I actually think there is a very good chance this new plug will have content provided by Nine Volt Audio. Having listened to their demos online and seen a recent Video of which many more are here
...demonstrating RMX in creative ways...I think Nine Volt are very likely to feature (Content wise) in this new plug.
Just going back to "Other" category for a bit...
I was going to say this too is a slim possibility but M4M (from page 4) beat me to it...
In hindsight I probably should have included the "host" option as well. I guess that might be why the "other" category had so many votes. If the new plug is a host I don't think it would be a Sonar, Cubase type of offering... I doubt that.Muzik 4 Machines wrote:a host
Although with "years" in development it could still be something to take on the majors. I think a more realistic possibility though is something along the lines of Kore2 or Mainstage some sort of hybrid of the two. Definitely something that is stage focused.
I don't think they will go the Live or P5 route, more Kore, Apple MS instead....if it is a host. Perhaps something that can host their existing plugs and provide additional Kontat 3 features! Now that would take a lifetime to explore...back to "Spectrasonics Universal" again, my first choice.
I noticed that even when this thread was one page 2 it was still getting votes, I guess the traffic is pretty heavy on this forum so some people have still not seen this thread...feel free to add your vote... just a few days left...
I thought the new wrappers had already addressed the Intel issue.Muzik 4 Machines wrote:just being intel compatible would already be a great lenght for them!

No - it's a kludgy workaround, *not* a solution, and a workaround that is unworkable for some and pretty ugly for most.christianmusicmaker wrote:I thought the new wrappers had already addressed the Intel issue.I am not a MAC user so I am just curious here...are the new wrappers not providing intel compatibility? Problematic to use?
If the first thing the Specs announce *isn't* UB versions/upgrades for existing Mac Trilogy/Atmoshere owners who have basically not been able to use the instruments they purchased for a year or more, there will be a riot!!

Glad to you see you guys so interested in what we are up to.
It's going to be an exciting week indeed!
Thursday is the big day.
It might appear that way if you spend a lot of time of internet forums, but in reality that's not the current situation at all.
The public beta wrapper solution is working fine for most of our Intel Mac users....especially those with Mac Pros. However, you are correct that it's not usable for everyone and it depends on the system you have. Obviously, the minority of users who are not able to use this particular solution are not happy about it and are venting on forums. The users that it works for are just using them and we've received good feedback from them.
We provided the wrappers as an interim transitional solution that works well for certain configurations. The Performance Charts that are posted in the Public Beta downloads site are pretty accurate as to what you can expect with different systems.
Back to NAMM prep.....looking forward to the revealing.
Cheers!

A tiny bit OT...but those Nine Volt videos mentioned above are awesome for getting under the hood of Stylus. I -gasp- just had NO idea that one could go SO deep. Be still my heart!!! Highly recommended for Stylus users who want to begin to explore the vastness of this remarkable program!!! Thanks for posting the link to 'em.

The nine volt videos are awesome, but don't forget the stylus videos bothe on the disc and on the website for registeret users. They are still a source for inspirtion on how deep stylus really is.

I voted other. I bet it's a more like a true workstation type of rompler…
Finally I can put my old XP-30 and Motif rack to rest. If anyone would succeed in this it would be Spectrasonics. And yes, I have tried other vsti romplers but I haven't been that impressed.

Picture of the Earth... lifetime to discover... my guess is a great big World/Ethnic instrument. They could call it... Ethnosphere. Or maybe something else not already taken.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

To those who believe the anticipation is leading to Atmosphere 2 (myself included), what would you like to see in the next iteration? RMX ran with the Stylus concept of taking a core group of sounds and being able to manipulate them endlessly through groupings and through combinations of effects or variations (like the CHAOS engine) and coming out with something completely different, really quickly and easily across any tempo (thanks to the stretchy-stretchy goodness of the SAGE engine).
RMX also added SAGE, over the UVI engine - so any ideas what super-duper features an Atmosphere SAGE engine would add to pads? Incidentally, Stylus RMX tripled the core library (Atmosphere 1 contains 3.7 gig), any guesses for the core library size?
As long as it can do a good mellow JP800 pad sound, I'll be happy!
