hi schwa,

i already said in the olga thread in the reaper forum how much i like the sound of olga - please excuse my posting again this request, just to be sure you'll read it (-8= :

is there any chance to make

Polyphonic Aftertouch

a modulation source? especially for osc tune and filter frequency. - my roland a50 has it and the new rhodes mark7 will have it too, as well as the forthcoming infiniteresponse vax77. it makes for some incredible epressivity.

but even normal channel aftertouch as a modulation source would be way cool!

cheers

Tried it. Nothing wrong with it. Not all that interesting. Don't need it.

when its on the initial preset, the sound reminds me of the sound in super mario 3 when you use a flute.

I respect White Tie's/Schwa's wish to make it a secret, but I can't help finding it a bit stupid and probably not exactly the best marketing idea ever.

But one man's nuissance might be another man's joy.
"fun" or "joy" is a part of it, jens, but there is a more practical purpose...to encourage the user to experiment outside the box, to cast off normal preconceptions of what they "need" to do to get the sound they want. It may make it harder to find the sound you THINK you want, but in return you may find an even better sound that you didn't even realize you were looking for.

There is a method to our idiocy^H^H^H^H^H^Hmadness. :D

Yes, I understand the concept, it is explained in the manual, but tbh I don't buy it. At least personally I don't need to lose my concepts to be able to experiment - quite the contrary - I think a thoroughful knowledge of the available options is the basis for successful experimentation. And with a complex system as a synth is, the tweaking of different parameters depends too much on the value of others to be able to just grab a parameter and play a few notes to really understand what it's doing.

So to use a metaphor, for me Olga's default gui is like being in a big dark room full of different things and holding a just small mag-lite, while everything that's in the room keeps moving in the dark - you'll never be able to explore the whole room - but I appreciate that others see it differently.

Come on - that wasn't my intention. I hope you know this. :-D

Well I hate easter egg hunts, I don't have the time, patience, or inclination, and even if I did, I'm usually the last one to find the egg.. :tantrum: So atm this Russian/English thing is holding me back from trying it. It's like listening to a song, if it doesn't get going within the first few bars I'm outta there.

yeah, seemed kinda needlessly obscure to me, too, but I found it quickly enough...try clicking on the little graphic below the filter selections (the vertical row of buttons on the upper-left-hand side of the synth)...

It kills me this stuff.
You've got the time, patience and inclination to make a post at KVR complaining that you haven't got the time patience and inclination to look for the easter egg?...you could have found it in the time it took to post about it mate.

I heard enough to make me want to explore it more when played the default patch and tweaked the cutoff. That was enough for me.Perhaps i have too much free time

It's a gnarly sounding synth,it could blow my speaker with the noise oscillator and resonance alone.Guess it depends what you want,if your looking for a synth with an edge this has got it.I think for stuff like industrial, breaks, dnb, electro and techno this synth is ideal.I like it's quirks and i think it will give it a wider appeal.

Just my 2c

you're kiddin'? It took me about ten minutes to find it.

Perhaps some of you forget that some of us aren't native English speakers - and 'tie' isn't exactly a word I use in every English conversation I join - and if I ever use it I mean two contrahends in balance - and then: no offense, White Tie, but the drawing is a broad approximation at best.

Same here, the easter egg should be the other way round. :(

Oh, to say something positive:

I think the concept is spot-on - I've always been wondering why no-one went that route (well, actually Zynaddsubfx walks a similar path) - on the other hand my cpu isn't quite up to it - perhaps that's why.

I didn't install it yet, If it was a .dll I would have checked it out by now, but thanks for the tip, maybe I'll give it a spin.

I know it looks like an installer but it just seems to unzip a dll and manual file to the folder of your choice.
