I see. Helix is a very good sounding VST and I really would like to make use of it. But as I want to perform my songs and not only produce them I must take care how the setup behave under live conditions.
I am not into programming, so I don't have any clue how difficult it would be to fix such a bug (if it can be called a bug at all)
Maybe keep the GUI open/minimzed to get around it for now. At least, it hasn't posed a problem to me when performing in realtime.

What would be a nifty feature is, like in Hypersonic 2, the previous patch remains 'loaded' until its sound 'ends' while the enxt patch is loaded. (only between two patches, on third load, first patch is cut off.)

Funnily enough, this problem is exactly the opposite of KarmaFX Synth's loading issues. (GUI open = load lag. Helix is GUI Closed. :o)

Anyway, Jonas if you're there, I'd still like your input on the FM experiment problem I'm having. Thanks. ;)

Helix can cause a small spike in cpu-usage when you play a sound for the first time. It shouldn't be too bad though... Do you start playing many instances at the same time? High poly counts? If this is the case maybe you can adjust the arrangment of the song to not start out playing "everything at once"... that's the only guess I have now...

is it just me or does this NOT WORK in OSX 10.3.9?

Use two instances instead! (that's what I would need to do under the hood anyway...)

Achieving FM by automating the pitch is not going to sound good enough since the pitch is only modulated every 32 samples (the pitch is interpolated in between).

Making the oscillators support FM and stay bandlimited is not that easy and might mess them up.

I'd much rather make a filter-type with a delay where the delay-time varies in audio-rate. That would make it very powerful and not change the oscillators. What do you think? Good enough of a compromise?

Works for me. :D Will look forward to that. :) (thanks for answering)

Would it be possible to have the current PM, AM and RM oscs be able to change between a sine and a triangle or some other simple waveform?

thank you for your reply.

The GUI still causes a ton of CPU issues for me. If I open, close, reopen the synth a few times, I can crash my DAW entirely.

Ouch, I'm sorry about that, can you please tell me what OS and what host you use? Thanks!

as a secondary test, I just loaded 2 Helixi in Cantabile, with different presets, and repeatedly minimized and reopened each Helix, and the host with no problems, at 1024x768, nvidia gfx card. This being done in PClinuxOS linux, with wineasio, on an ancient computer. Perhaps some OS optimizations would help? Helix just gets more, and then more better! Thanks again Jonas!!! :)

Yeah, same here for ACID still. Some kind of memory leak that doesn't actually use system memory...or what is it?

Yes, never blame 'windows' in public, lest the black helicopters come in the night to strafe you DAW

Windows, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL. It's not a problem in most circumstances, but not long ago I was tweaking the synth a lot to try to fit it into a mix, and like an idiot I kept closing the window; eventually the CPU shot up to 100% on one core and 85% and the DAW stopped responding.
