Im interested in participating.
Some questions about the rules..:
Im I allowed to use:
1. Pitch shifting
2. IR for reverb
3. Delay
4. Automated Pan
5. Pass the signal through my ancient Audio Sonic stereo cassette deck
?

I hope I can so I'm not constantly worried if I pass the step from editing the sound to changing the sound itself...
Go for it! The main idea was to limit the use of Strait out filter devices, and or devices that have filters in the direct input line.

So an example of what would be allowed is a delay or reverb that had a filter section in its signal path. What would not be allowed is a device like a MoogerFooger, Sherman filter bank, or any other device that used a filter section at the begining of its input stage/signal path. I hope that clears that up. Again I'm not going to play cop here. I nor any of us involved will be sitting there watching to make sure you play fair..........Just try to, I guess is the lesson of the day! :D

Just One by The Monodubs (3:12, 4mb)

Concept for this tune was to play around with triplet feel and half time, and use some dubstep elements. A bit of a silly/crazy vibe. About 15 TAL elek7ros were used. Almost all are my own patches. Delay, reverb, EQ, chorus and phaser are used to liven things up a bit.

OK, I'm on the case, got some sounds and beats, so I will def be submitting a track! Lovin this synth already!!!!

Just want to cheekily plug the oatmeal comp ... only 5 days to go with that one .... so plenty time to knock something together :hihi: ... particularly if you're at a loose end having already submitted your Tal-Elec7ro track! :)

You're doin a grand job serve ..... all the best with this and future comps!

serve, I'm almost in but I have to ask you to reconsider one rule:

the rule of using only Elek7ro for drums.

I mean, it's not a drum synth, so why not allow the use of acoustic drums, or maybe make the rule that Elek7ro has to be used in the drum track, but can be used along with acoustic drums (but not another synth)?

I don't know if anyone else agrees with me, but I just think using nothing but synths makes for a pretty weak track. Isn't it enough to use Elek7ro alone for the bass/chords/melody and allow acoustic drum samples or loops to be employed for the rhythm track?

I don't agree. It's only a "pretty weak track" if you don't like synth drums. You can create some awesome rhythms and effects with a bunch of synths. My advice is to have a play around with it. It's part of the challenge.

Post

I'm sorry to not be on your side here A.M. Gold, But its called a "One Synth Challenge" for a reason. If I allow drums, why not a bass guitar, oh wait a piano, maybe a flute and some tubas.......Where would it end?

The idea here is to realy work hard at getting the best sounds you can from the synth in every aspect. No its not a drum synth but that the fun part about One synth challenges, no synth is a "everything synth"...

So be patient and try and work within the limits of the OSC....

Thanks for your time,

The beauty of these competitions lies in the restrictions: they make you think of alternative ways of getting the job done. I've done about three of these now, including a demo track for the Pro-Sounds Albino demo competition where you were allowed to use percussion samples. I decided not to as I wanted to see what was possible within the constraints of the presets from the demo library that Pro-Sounds provided. I just wrote something that didn't need drums.

And I can tell you, when you've tried to write a song using just One Ping Only, you will never regard a perfectly good two-osc synth with half decent pitch or filter envelopes as a percussion weakling. You also find out why varying sound sources and EQs is a good idea (One Ping Only has some real nasties in its output that accumulate badly in a mix - luckily Elek7ro doesn't suffer from that too much).

Well, I have been in contact with TAL and it looks like as soon as I can get some designs done they will have some merch available!

And of course I'll surely post them here when they are finished.....

I truely wish I had more time to do a better t-shirt design, shoot I havn't even had time to do my submission for the challenge; I've given up on that dream

defenetly not.
plus what u mean it is not a drum synth? what features does it miss to beconsidered a drum synth?
most drum synths are basically synth presets with a few controls .
check the track by "2 many synths" ....do those drum sounds feel weak to u?

I noticed something interesting when working on my submission. I was about 4 times more productive than I am usually.

The restrictions removed the sometimes frustrating and time consuming choices of what synth to use, and stopped me from browsing endless presets or samples.

I also felt more comfortable designing patches because I wasn't concerned about which synth does what sound best.

Learnt a bit about synthesising drums too.

Maybe I should do this more often.
