There are certain qualities and characteristics in real analog that digital cannot match. Ironically, I do not find the above demos musically very interesting. So in some 'absolute' sound quality sense, analog is better, but for me, in 'musical' sound quality, the choice is not so clear cut.
Check out my demo of my own Jupiter 6 that I did expressly for a member of this board. Hopefully my server can handle some load from this board.

A few different sounds from it, totally dry, no eq, compression, effects or even MIDI. Straight from the synth.
Sorry, that was inadvertent. Will correct it.Naturalist wrote:pdxindy, you mistakenly attributed that quote to me.
By the way, good point about "musical" sound quality.
So what? Your implying I got it right because I knew? I didn't. Not this morning when I was first listening, judging the files and writing my thoughts down. Some time later I remembered, and this should be clear from my posts, otherwise I wouldn't have refered to the developer etc. But I was not the one to name the synths and spoil the fun. And yes, it is very obvious from the sound alone.Naturalist wrote:http://www.gearslutz.com/board/electron ... d-out.html
From the above thread:lain2097 @ Gearslutz wrote:Jupiter 6?! - oh now I have to get involved.
I understand that the demo is not the greatest to show off this product but blah, bland! I have to agree with livingsounds.

Sorry Yoozer I'm not trying to jab at you again.andy cytomic @ Gearslutz wrote:Thanks for posting these top examples of why analog synths sound so good! My first synth was a Jupiter 6, it was at a music shop on display next to a few hardware VA synths with the aim of showing how much better the VA's were - boy did that backfire completely. After about a minute playing I asked to buy the Jupiter 6, selfish of me though it was to not allow everyone else to see just how much better the analog synth was. I love all the character of the jupiter 6 and especially the envelope "buzz" which is clearest when the filter is way down low.
In defence of synth squad I think the "mid" tone that people have previously commented was just the drive in the preset being used.
I've put together an example with no post filter drive (by setting the amp low and making up the gain with the level control) . In this example I used cypher with no unison, just the 3 osc, and one svf in lp 24 mode, in serial with another svf in hp 24 mode. At the end I just let the low pass self oscillate tuned to 100% keytrack to play the same melody as before. The example is completely dry.

Would it be possible to dial in a sound resembling the CS-80 PWM arpeggio in this Vangelis track?

I might just buy a VSTi synth then...living sounds wrote:If the first file is a plugin (without additional analog processing) I'll buy it right away. Sounds great.
And I second the notion about analog/digital envelopes.Mans wrote:I reckon 1 is Jupiter 6 and 2 is Cypher.

". That's how it was meant.
I'm a bit astounded how many people get this wrong. Even the designer of the VSTi in question admits that the good old analog synths still sounds a lot better.

I'm just implying that this test is poorly done. Sorry for not stating my intention for posting those quotes.living sounds wrote:So what? Your implying I got it right because I knew? I didn't. I agree. I think it's the most obvious when the detuning kicks in. The Jupiter 6 maintains its clarity whereas Cypher becomes muddy. A previous poster made the same observation:living sounds wrote:And yes, it is very obvious from the sound alone.
longbongsilver wrote:My first thought was the 1st one was analog, since it didn't seem to break up like the 2nd one when detuning came in.
