Apple are not innovators by the tech, their are innovators because they made the tech useful for millions of people.

So, Microsoft are the true innovators of GUI-driven OSes then? :D

Re: your other question, I would certainly buy a tablet that could run FL Studio. And by that, I mean the full FL Studio or just slightly cut-down, with cross-compatibility between the versions. I would buy the tablets just that have that, in fact. If the tablet was also Android-driven (my personal fav of mobile OSes) that would be a huge bonus too. :D

And all the superlatives. Damn, those superlatives! :hihi: MAGICAL!!! INNOVATIVE!!! REVOLUTIONARY!!! Before anyone says "that's how marketing works", I disagree. Other people advertise their products too, but the smugness and self-satisfaction Apple does it with is really overboard and extremely irritating. Don't make me start about the slanderous "I'm a Mac" ad campaign.
I actually agree with everything you say. Apple's smugness can even be worse than, say, Prius-drivers. However, there's no denying that they have a talent for turning obscure technologies that nobody understands or wants to use (except for a handful of tech-obsessed geeks) into useful applications that normal people understand and recognize the value of.

I used to have the same opinion on Apple as you do (mostly due to the smug Apple advocates getting on my nerves). Until I gave in and started to use their products. Then I realized that their marketing hyperbole actual contains a kernel of truth. Their products truly are in fact better thought through and more fun to use.
I also agree with you in that their products are *really* good. I don't know if they are the best (eg. having widgets on my smartphone desktop is not actually essential, but I love that Android has it and it's a shame iOS doesn't) but no one can claim that their products aren't lovely and easy to use.

They just get on my nerves! (not the products, Apple's marketing department)

and before everybody chimes in saying how expensive it is - yes it is. But thats what Apple owners say about Apple stuff, that its premium. Because this isnt Apple - its not fair - boo hoo.

Yes, but it runs Windows and Windows applications. That's about the opposite of Apple's propostion. Mouse-driven applications running on a mouse-driven operating system, with a touch-panel bolted on top of it, basically.

Err, no - its multi touch. Not very good at reading are you? Thers an app to adapt stuff for the multi touch envoinment - yes, you can write your own too...

What i like about Apple is that they bring stuff to the public. Maybe they're not first in ditching the floppy disc drive but they led the demise of the floppy. Maybe they weren't the first who did tablets in whichever shape or form but now suddenly when they do one everyone is jumping on the train. And for that they deserve a lot of credit. I think the iPad is superawesome covered in FUNSAUCE but i won't get one for reasons i stated earlier. I will get an android one though and when i do it's in part thanks to Apple.

How does that make a difference if the underlying OS and applications aren't designed for it?

It means that you can use existing apps with it. Come on this is stupid - just say "I was wrong" Apple wernt first lol

+1 for Jupiter 8 response.

No.. what is stupid is that you continue to fail to look past technology. Just putting multitouch on top of Windows is not going to result in any usable experience. You need to design the OS and the applications around the paradigm.

Just to put this really simple:

Unless you redesign FLStudio for multi-touch, you won't be able to optimally use it with multi-touch.

Unless you redesign Windows for multi-touch, you won't be able to optimally use it with mult-touch.

Just bolting a multi-touch screen onto a PC is not the same thing as designing a multi-touch experience from the ground up.

Semantics and you know it. The end result is the same. All apps are written so that parts of the screen can be used simulatenously if you can do this with a controller. Ive never seen an app force you to use one onscreen control at a time. It has the advantage that you can run any app you like within windows and it just works. Dont forget, we are talking about 2/3 fingers being used at the same time at most, otherwise it becomes impractical - not really much to shout about. Ill bow out now :-)

No. It's the millions of lemming selling their souls to the hype and spending their money on any Apple product without giving it much thought who deserve the credit

Well yeah but if they didn't make the iPad i suspect we wouldn't see Android pads this fall.

EDIT:Plus i find that really offensive calling people who like the iPad lemmings like they can't think for themselves. Normally i wouldn't mind it but since you call me that by extension i find it really annoying. Do you really think i like the iPad simply because Steve Jobs wants me to?

Post

No offense intended. However I do know A LOT of people who blindly buy into everything from Apple. Those I call lemming or even idiots, although it's them who make Apple's marketing work.

If you like the iPad, well, then enjoy it.

And I bet they all enjoy their Apple products. Such idiocy - buying something you enjoy. It's a good thing that you are there to warn them of their fallacy!

Post

Of course they enjoy their products and they should - given the price tag ;-) But they wouldn't buy a similar, cheaper or even better product, if it's not Apple. That's the idiocy.
