Though i loved Beatmaker 1, i still prefer NanoStudio.

Yes i bought BeatMaker 2 - and it's very high quality app, but i don't use it.

I've never really heard good stuff made with NanoStudio, but BeatMaker has some nice stuff
This is very subjective also :)
I don't watch ns\bm tracks, so i don't know great examples, all i know that people loved this ns track:

And for live things, i don't like BM2..i prefer finger drumming on RicePad =)
I placed comment on Intua forums about what i don't like also in BM2
I was a beatmaker1 user when I had iPod touch 2g, so now, when I got iPad , I bought bm2

It's very interesting and powerful software...

But it seems that there is one big disappointment for me...

Yes, about effects..but not about quality..about control!

So, what makes me thinking about?

1) effects are for the whole sampler, not for each pad on/off
2) why don't put XY pad for controlling effect to the left while triggering pads by fingers as usual?

That two knobs for filter cut off / resonance is really bad.. XY coordinate window is needed for live performance , because rotating knob on touch screen is a bit useless while XY coordinate movement works much better.

You putted XY window in fullscreen mode, I know, but it s useless when there is no playback...

At least you should make not only that giant XY window on the whole screen, but for all effects slots together - in bm1 u had two effects together with control.

Just imagine - loop is playing, there is bitcrusher and delay. In BM1 I could change XY for delay by left finger and XY for crusher by right finger - simultaneously..

And in bm2 I only can change delay XY than switch to another... Pffff

So you see? everyone has different needs :)

You can control them from Beatmaker if they have Virtual Midi and background audio and lots of fine synths for iPad have.

Cheers
IncarnateX is correct. However, it is also important to remember that while these apps don't have Audiobus, you will also want to make sure they have the ability to record the synth part you want to add to your song. Audio copy/Audiopaste also comes in handy with this setup too. :-)

I like the idea of beatmaker 2 and I own it as well, but it crashes constantly and just doesn't have the response time that Nanostudio has. As far as never hearing anything good from Nanostudio.....I rather enjoy it and use it almost everyday...

Here's some examples...

Thanks for the examples guys!

The Youtube example in my opinion is nothing impressive and yes it sounds boring and childish IMO. (The synths do anyway).

If you are just loading samples and pitching them up /down to play your melodies, then of course that will sound good in any sampler based app. I think BM2 has higher quality sound overall, although you pretty much have to run everything as samples in it as far as I know.

I found a post on another forum where someone said that NanoStudio's synths sounded very 80's - I realized this is exactly true. I was trying to pin down how to describe it and that does it very well.

How easy/hard is it to make your own instrument using Beatmaker2's keyboard sampler? For example if you sampled a VSTi synth preset across the keyboard (on your PC), how do you get it into Beatmaker2?

They do have Beatmaker. That is a free auditool for mac and win which you can use to transfer selfmade kits from computer to BM2.

http://www.intua.net/products/

Scroll to the end of page.

I don't know whether it supports the keyboard sampler too though.

Otherwise you can transfer files by virtue of drop box inside BM 2 and build them from scratch.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'm leaning towards FL Studio Mobile then, it makes this pretty easy if you also have DirectWave.

Oops i installed BM2 again and find out that i was jamming in it for two hours.

Great list! I have about 85% of these listed.

Be VERY CAREFUL before you make that jump! Just about everything regarding FL Studio Mobile and Directwave or FPC is broken with FL Studio Mobile. It is a half-thought-out application. They are already working on FL Studio Mobile 2 (probably better thought-out), but I don't know yet if they will charge a second time (like they did for the iphone vs ipad versions) or if they will make it an upgrade (for free). Right now, if you are wanting to make your own instruments for a platform, Beatmaker 2 may be the better option. Personally, I'm leaning toward ThumbJam as my main sampler. ;-)

I still hold out hope for FL Studio Mobile, but I would think very, very well before you pay any money for the program in its current incarnation.
