ok before the sleep i think found another one
i am not sure why happening also i can't reproduce but happened twice ,
first time version 2.5.1 but i totally forgot till now ,
i recorded a gif to describe correctly and i sent to the support mail.
basically RC started with very tiny size GUI,
top left side of my left monitor.
was really hard to grab and re size it.
w7 x64 RC x64 as i said i am using dual screen if this is matter ..
i will try to be more careful for the details next time,
if this is happens again.

Hi Attila,
are there known issues with Rapid Composer as a plugin in Cubase7?
I am trying to load RC into the VST-Instruments Rack (the one that comes up when pressing F11). I am asked if I want to create a corresponding midi track and after clicking 'yes' I can see the tracks being created, but then Cubase freezes and it's shown in the task manager as 'not responding'. Killing Cubase via the task manager then freezes Windows completely.
I am running Cubase 7.0.6 and RC 2.5.2 as 64-bit programs on Windows 7 64-bit.
Do you have any idea how this can be resolved?
Cheers
Max
Edit: I did not use RC as much as I should in the past, but as far as I remember it worked with an earlier version, but I don't know anymore which version number it was.

Hmm... the "Download Update" button on the "Support" tab does nothing when I click it. I have always had to go back to my purchase confirmation e-mail and click the download link there to get the latest updates from the Music Developments server. I use the 64-bit standalone Windows version of RC full edition.

There have been problems on dual monitor setup previously and I thought these were fixed, at least on Windows7 it seemed to work well. Handling dual monitors is a mess on Windows. The initial window size and position is carefully checked to be visible on screen but still we found cases when a very small window was opened.
So the fix is coming soon.
Thanks for reporting this.

Hi Max,
yes, unfortunately there are problems with the VST plug-in under Cubase. This is being investigated, and I hope to come up with a fix in the next 7 days.
Thanks,
Attila

Tony,
which browser and windows version do you use?
The "Download Update" button opens the download URL (the same URL as in the confirmation e-mail) using a standard Windows ShellExecute command.
I tried it on the 64-bit standalone and it worked for me.
Is it possible that you have a firewall that does not let programs open a .php URL? I'll make sure the next update will display an error message when this fails.
Thanks,
Attila

Hi Attila,
thank you for the reply. Hope you will find a solution.
Keep up the good work, it's great to see how Rapid Composer matures, I definitely need to use it more in the future.
Cheers

I am running Windows 8 Professional 64-bit and my default browser is the Portable edition of SRWare's Iron browser (a derivative of Chromium, the open source Google Chrome).

Also, I am running the free home edition of the Avast! antivirus software.
The only firewall that I have in place is the Windows firewall, and it usually prompts me to add an exception to the firewall for new applications that want to access the internet.
By the way, with every new RC update, Windows 8 always stops me from running the Rapid Composer setup executable warning me that it is too new and unknown. I ask for "More Info" and it displays the value of "Unknown" as the "Current Publisher" for the setup executable -- I then have to instruct Windows to "Run Anyway" to proceed with the installation.

Tony,
what happens when you type this in cmd.exe?:
It should open your browser. If this does not happen, you need to check Control Panel/Default Programs/Set Associations/HTTP (at the bottom of list).
Probably the protocol association is not set up properly.
Thanks,
Attila

When I look up the Association set for the HTTP protocol, I do see that it is set to the Chromium browser.musicdevelopments wrote:Tony,

When I execute that command from a shell window, I see the following message box:

Ugh! Is there a problem with my browser's integration with the operating system?
I wonder if I should set the association to Internet Explorer. *SHUDDER*

Pressing CTRL-Z to undo an unintended edit takes an unusually long time to finish.

I was in note editing mode. I just wanted to select notes but instead a new note was added to the track at the position where I clicked. When I pressed Ctrl-Z to undo my mistake, RC became unresponsive for an unusually long, indefinite amount of time. RC does eventually undo the last action and become responsive once again; after approximately five minutes this last time.

For me, regardless of what I am trying to undo, the issue happens whenever I press Ctrl-Z in the composition edit window.
I think this is related to the edit history management... the number of history events is VERY large.

Pasting a copied phrase from the clipboard to a location in the composition that will be partially obscured/clipped by the composition window's right boundary causes scrolling/sizing issues with the RC application window

Pasting a copied phrase from the clipboard (keyboard shortcuts C and V) causes the composition to scroll to the end and the UI redraws such that the vertical boundaries are messed up -- there are no horizontal scroll bars at the bottom of the window, and sometimes I see two vertical scroll bars at the right edge of the main window. Without the horizontal scroll bars I cannot move around the composition effectively. Also after this anomaly happens, I am unable to diagonally resize the application's window, and I can only resize horizontally to a fixed size.

I just noticed now that the mouse pointer never actually changes (to the resize pointer) when I click any of the edges of the application window like it does for other Windows programs (I guess the cross-platform widget library used by RC works differently with the desktop's window management API).
Now when I close RC and restart it, the splash screen spends over a minute displaying the text "Loading last session..." before it finishes loading the in progress project.

Again, I suspect this is related to the edit history management function of RC -- the edit history for this project is quite large. When I poke around on the history tab. I sometimes crash RC and I see the crash dialog that tells me I can press the Ctrl key on restart to avoid loading the last session.
**EDIT: After the crash that occurred while poking around on the history tab, the project now shows no history, and all of my changes to the project are gone. I guess they did not save when I thought they had.

RC has been very unstable for me today. I think the instability began once I started using a VSTi instrument.
In the following screenshot, you can see that my eight loaded instances of a VSTi have multiplied into an indeterminate number of instances:

I have a hypothesis as to why my application window has grown in the vertical dimension to a size that makes working with RC almost impossible. I think every time my project loads -- either normally, or after a session recovery -- the VSTis get re-added to the Mixer tab. I am guessing that all of the tabs share sizing logic with the Mixer tab, as they all grow vertically out of control after they get re-painted. As you can see, the tabs become critically hampered by that point (the first screenshot shows the Phrase Editor with the inability to access the transport controls or save the phrase being edited; the second screenshot shows the Composition window with the inability to access the horizontal scrollbar):

**EDIT: I have had a fairly stable session for a few hours now after changing my VSTi configuration, but now I am noticing that I have more VSTi instances than the nine I expected -- where did those extra six instances come from?

Hi Tony!
Thanks for posting about these issues.
The growing number of VST plug-ins appearing will be fixed ASAP.
Thanks,
Attila

Hi
as we are on the vst issue hunting
is this normal behavior
i tried idea tool first with 4 instances of Nexus2 (x64), loaded 4 different patches, but when i hit the shift G all Nexus patches switched to the default Saw patch.
also i tried with 4x Kontakt same thing happened again all kontakt instances switched to empty after shift G..
also
in the Instrument browser i see 3 (bottom last 3)
undefinable buttons, names are just the dots ( ...... )
i was trying save kontakt (8out version) with dedicated patches
( trying to see if this will solve the Idea Tool unload issue)
then i decided to edit this preset tags etc.. but i don't remember which one i press one of those undefined buttons, kontakt 8 out disappeared in the list
then now gone totally
i tried couple of times remove and re add in the vst settings but no luck...
then i load regular Knotakt5 instead of 8 out.
honestly this is not so important to my workflow because i will use RC with virtual midi port ( i hope soon i can say "ports" )
but want to report anyway.
Best Regards
