My first modem was 2400 baud. I still remember the day I upgraded to 14.4k, I thought that I would never need anything faster. (The 16.8k modems were atrociously expensive.)

My first modem was 300 baud! And I remember getting a 1200 baud and being quite impressed (US Robotics was king!)

And yes, I remember the BBS days and when the whole underground scene was beginning! We had a huge blast with the whole BBS scene! Used to have massive, wild parties (eventually 200+ people) every weekend at one of the local Hiltons with all the BBS peeps! Amazing times, and I really miss it all!

I'm getting a fairly decent 250kb/sec download on this lost jewel! The GUI looks familiar, but just barely. Will be interesting to explore!

Being in the UK, my first modem was 1200/75 full duplex (yes, 75bps back channel - fast enough for typing...). Getting 300/300 "approved" modems was initially either expensive or impossible... Once I got one, and it did 75/1200, too, I started running a BBS . Dial-up IP (SLIP) wasn't fun, either, even at 14k4... We're still on RADSL, 1Mbps up, 10Mbps down...
