I'm sure it was not meant seriously. I think it would not be sensible to think that at all this time. If anything, Waves has actually improved much on recent times. They stopped being anal with their licensing and go rid of the stupid i-lok, they have had some great sales, they changed their WUP to quite sensible etc. Waves has gone in a short time from try-to-avoid to keep-an-eye-on list. Some emerging competition has done them good, no doubt about it.

Great...this is it. I totally overlooked this...

Tehnik wrote:$200 is a total bananas price. laughable actually, considering for this kind of money you can have eg Masive and many more synths that offer something more than a features set from "vsti 101" book.

anyway - why would anyone want to download a demo of something that offers nothing extraordinary to try? looking at the GUI I cant stop thinking about the similarity to TAL free plugins.

Also - ofcourse it sounds good on the demos, it's Waves after all so if devs making free synths can make them sound great, then Waves devs are certainly capable of doing so either.
They probably should have named it ElementsCM and give it away for free with CM. Then we all would be rejoicing now. :hihi:

I'm not sure I'd even use it if it was provided free of charge.

Nah. Bitching about free shit is like pastime #4 or 5 here at KVR, right behind winging about copy protection.

After some more testing... Unison is a bit limited, it's only doubling. There is no control of stereo spread, detune, amount of voices "stacking".
Effects are ok but not many options eg. the reverb and chorus are only one knob for the mix level! No modulation time, room size.. nothing.

Switchable DC/VC oscillators are a good idea also that oscillator 1 can be modulated with a sine wave.

The Arp is very limited. I miss velocity or binding of steps.

For the very limited features $200 is of course a joke. Compared to other synth it's worth not more then $30.

Haven't downloaded the demo yet, but I'm in the camp that likes the sound of the demo track.

As to "Does the world need another VA?" I think it depends - if the sound has character, and/or the synth provides a different approach/interface that inspires, then I think the market's there - most of us own more soft VA's then we would hardware, simply because of the price point.

So much of the Waves-hate stems from the botched freebie and install process - my opinion of the company went from neutral to somewhat negative, so as a marketing tool it failed, and even though they got my e-mail, I'd seen the synth on CM's FB page first anyway.

Another sour note is the "Virtual Voltage" hype - that's marketing to the twelve-year-old and one step away from calling the LFOs "whobblers". IMHO It cheapens the "pro vibe" Waves has worked towards.

I'll still look at the synth tho - G.A.S.!

I just realized the $99 is introductory. :dog:

I don't think $200 will cut it in this market.

I'm guessing that most of you haven't been paying much attention to Waves' pricing strategy over the past two years. They set the retail prices on individual plugins high, but run frequent sales (monthly, mid-monthly, holidays) with pretty big price reductions, so it's reasonable to assume that there will be many opportunities to buy this synth for less than the $200 retail price, which I agree is probably ridiculously high for this synth.

There are a few synths roughly that priced and equally as 'basic' looking. Its about the sound quality tho isnt it?

Looks quite capable, hopefully it sounds good.

Wow, Jordan Rudess is becoming a bigger cockblower everyday. Another 2 minute paid decision... funny, it took me under 2 minutes to realize Dream Theater stinks.

Actually, it does look like TAL NoiseMaker, just with more modulation options.

I'm not commenting on the price politics and copy protection by Waves. I just find it silly to demo for like 2-7 days only. Great for putting it to the test.

More funny are the recent developments in "trademarks". Waves for example states "Virtual Voltage Technology", SoundMagic has a "Modeling Core Next" technology, I've seen other ones like "True Analog Modeling" or "real sound shaping".

I mean... hello? Are we users stupid these days?

Buzz words do sale.

Should I ever code a plugin, I call it "TITANS-D":
"Totally IntuiTive and Non-Stupid Design". Yes, I think I'm going to TM this!

It's *Virtual Voltage* technology!

It's got a virtual 3D perspective GUI!

Surely, a must buy. "No brainer" :hihi:

/sarcasm :D

But one must admit that the price is alright. if there wasn't for the excruciatingly terrible licensing system, one would be really tempted. ;)

Trying the demo and it's very similar to synths I already have like Retrologue and DuneCM so I doubt I'll buy it, but I do like it very much. The cpu is very low, so the filters are okay but not great, but the effects are quite nice. I'm having a lot of fun with it, as it's so fast to dial in nice sounds. If patch programming was a race this might be my synth of choice. 8)

There's something about the oscillators that's interesting to me. When I dial in the same waveform on each and blend them together (with no modulations and nothing else in the signal path) there is very noticeable phase shifting going on. In comparison when I blended the same waveforms in Retrologue and Dune there is no phase shifting at all. Maybe someone with more experience can tell me if this is a behavior common with real analogue synths? I've got to get back to work now but will try this with some other synths later.
