Bazille is fantastic for drums/percussion... It's sound quality is unrivaled when it comes to fast modulations. Between it and Zebra and Chromaphone I have zero interest in a dedicated drum synth...Bronto Scorpio wrote: If I want a simple drum machine I still use the uber-awesome Microtonic and if I want something more complex I usually use Bazille.
Tremor lies somewhere in between them, so I don't really have a use for it.

Poor old FXPansion Geist and Tremor.

Love my Fxpansion plugs! I use DCAM, and Tremor for much of my sound design and sample it back into Geist for track creation. The sound quality, FX, and interface are great for me.
The Transmod system is such a powerful modulation method! I just think that their plugs are too complex for many people to get their head around quickly (I am by no means a master of it either, but I can appreciate the genius of it!) Once you realize how crazy deep these modulations can go it is truly amazing!
I am actually in the process of creating an all tremor EP that will include both the music and the presets that I created to make the tracks. Here are a couple of tracks: https://soundcloud.com/schmidi_0/green-lit

Whatever you use, have fun with it!

Hi Raphael!himalaya wrote:The gain structure is essential in Tremor. The Pre and Post filter drive and the Gain in the filter itself can add a lot of saturation.
Can you post an example of some 'clean' kicks that you like?
Here are four kicks that I'd say are punchy, solid and clean - no drive or compression used. Are these harsh to your ears?
Tremore clean kicks
Sure, here's a quick snippet of sounds from both Audiospillage Drumspillage and Arturia Spark. None of them have been EQ'd or compressed. I bypassed all plugins including internal Spark inserts/sends. I have trouble getting these sounds from Tremor. I'll be the first to admit that I totally suck at synth editing though.
My personal fav is Drumspillage. It belts out tones that cut through the mix with little to no EQ. I've been able to get similar results with MicroTonic, but I'm hesitant to grab onto SonicCharge as their license transfer policy is non-existent.

I find this mention of "quality" absolutely misleading. Tremor, like Synth Squad, offers pristine audio rate modulation. It is piercingly clear in the highs and doesn't lose weight in the bass and sub bass area. To say that the "sound quality" is poor is just plain wrong.
That said, just like with Synth Squad, FXPansion do seem to love their aggressive gain staging. The default settings are already a little on the aggressive side. What effectively ruins the "analogue" sound is the addition of inharmonics in frequencies that weren't even present in the old analogue equipment, resulting in a sound that some perceive as "harsh" and "lacking warmth".
I think of it as a product much along the lines of Compassion: you're given comprehensive tools that enable you to basically go anywhere, without limits. The downside is: you can make it sound bad. But you can also take it to interesting places that wouldn't be accessible if the dev had played it safe. And it takes some skill and knowledge to use properly.
Microtonic is a good example of a drum synth that "plays it safe" - which isn't a bad thing at all. Sometimes it's good to be able to dial in a sound quickly. But sometimes I want that something special, and that's when I use Tremor.

Geist for me is still one of the most thought out and most fun to use pieces of music software that I own. The workflow of the sequencer just fits me. Same with tremor. I can understand that tremor is not for everyone, for bread and butter Drums i rely on samples but for more quirky percussions and grooves tremor is spot on. But if you were looking for a X0X replacement, there might be better choices.

This is the first kick in my example above. It has no bottom end at all? I think at this point we do indeed depart....

Sam,
I have some kicks for you but will post them later as I need to go out with the kids now.

No problem.TheoM wrote:ariston, then what about just not liking it?
TheoM wrote:Which is weird if it can do every drum sound imaginable as you say.
Where did I say that?
No, it is definitely just you. There's nothing wrong with that, as it's obviously a matter of taste and/or hearing. I just take exception to your overarching condemnation of the entire product. I mean, don't take this the wrong way, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a "a thousand apologies to FXpansion... Tremor is the king of drum machines, hands down, no really this time" thread by you in the future. It's happened before.TheoM wrote:So after i tried getting a sound, i saw what the experts had done, and realised it was just the product in this case, not me.
That's mighty weird, seeing as they have quite a bit in common (osc, filters,...). Maybe FXpansion put in a secret HP filter to confound us all.TheoM wrote:FWIW synth squad has probably the best bass around, and much better than diva even (though diva is king of pads).

Theo, have you missed that 200Hz peak that gives the kick a nice definition and punch? That bass kick is not just *bass* (like an 808-style 'boom' kick). It's a 'full-range' kick. It sits nicely in the low end and in the mids. Besides you assert that Tremor has no bass whatsoever, and yet there it is. I can hear it and I can see it. You don't?
