I dunno if it'd be too much for beginners. It would certainly provide a decent framework for students to build on. So they could go on to other basic elements like pads.

But you're right, sylenth does'nt have PWM. :(

Another good one might be TAL UNO LX, but it has a very specific sound. Good price tho' and well laid out.

I'm sure 'basic' would be decent as well. Also, I wonder will AD be releasing a more complex version at some point?

That is a very cool looking GUI.

How does it sound vs. other simple synths like kHs ONE?

As someone who's taught digital audio professionally, I don't think I'd ever use a synth like this in the classroom. Maybe for young children... I think the way to go to teach synthesis is with a modular like KarmaFX Modular. You get the benefit of actually being able to put all the parts together and seeing how they work and interact with each other. You also aren't limited and can keep going with your learning for a lot longer than you could with a very limited fixed architecture instrument like Basic.

That said, there's nothing wrong with a simple synth that gets the job done... it's just that I already own a handful of synths like this and I don't need another. This one just leaves me scratching my head. Audio Damage is my "go to" when I'm looking for something interesting. Effects like Bitcom are awesome. Not so complicated that you'll easily get lost, no feature that's really new, but excellent sound and a combo of features put together in a way that makes it fun to use and very musical. But this just seems like something they threw together to have their own synth to feed into their effects plugs and they decided to put a skin on it and sell it.

Actually, I forgot about KarmaFX Modular - That'd be a great choice.

Well, nevertheless, I would choose capitalism over communism any day:

"The Central committee has decided this year to produce glorious 1xOSC Synth Edit plug, you may stand in freezing que for 30 hours to buy one. It's called Kronk"

So either you buy Kronk, or there is no alternative.
Both Capitalism, Communism and Socialism can all work if the implimentation is right. The system's large-scale plan isn't the problem per se, it's the corruption. I LIKE the concept of Capitalism. The child who starts out with a lemonade stand and ends up with a business, the composer with a dream who gets to make a mark in the world of the arts. In theory these are all things that Capitalism should enable.

But as things stand at the moment, we in the West, or at least in the UK, get the worst of Capitalism and the worst of Communism, all combined into one shitty deal. We have private companies buying up our assets, we have huge corporations and a "trickle down" system of economics based on a fallacy and a blatant insult to those without a silver spoon in their mouths, we have companies that privatize profit whilst socialize debt, the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. The arts are also disappearing, and as people have to focus harder and harder on just surviving, they become less patient, less happy, and less caring.

Capitalism, in it's current implimentaion, cannot continue. There's no hope for the average person anymore, and the police state is getting out of hand. People are slowly waking up to how much they're being farmed and f**ked by the Powers That Be. The planet is also very nearly broken beyond repair, with no sign of the current trends reversing, species going extinct left-right-and-center, toxins in the water everywhere, etc, etc. You don't have to be a tree hugger to find this alarming.

This isn't Tin Foil Hattery, it's a blindingly obvious fact of life.

I agree. The same holds true for the rest of the Audio Damage plugins. I guess removing DRM appeals to many, but I'd sure love a demo. :)

Sendy wrote:There is one weird aspect to the modulation in the synth: pitch modulation isn't consistent across the keyboard. So if you set up a semitone trill in the middle of the keyboard, it'll play a different interval in the bass and treble range. Not a huge problem, but it's the first time I've noticed a synth do this.
Hmmmm, that's not something that's ideal in a synth that wants to be an educator.

I mean, how do you explain that inconsistency to a student.

If starting out with Basic, and then moving on to more complex synth later, the student would have to unlearn what s/he had learnt with Basic in that regard
I happen to agree. It doesn't help that I use square-wave pitch trills in my music a lot. I would use Charlatan to teach synthesis over Basic, personally. It's just perfect for that and everything is 100% consistent with what you'd expect and sounds fantastic, and the layout is intuitive and clear.

Admit it, you really want to stand in one of those long slow freezing Soviet queues, hoping to land a bread :P

That's the same in Germany, "social market" capitalism doesn't give the seriously poor people a chance. Without money you cannot build up anything, not even a small shop... :x

That said, I'm still not impressed by Basic. I miss Audio Damage's unique mixture of creativity, easy-to-use and extraordinarily combined features...
