but let's be clear on this... they still don't adjust to tempo in R8! Therefore the feature is something equal to what can be done in a Windows folder. Plus we can drag and drop straight into the sequencer anyway. So 'drag and drop' for audio isn't an improvement when it can be done already in Reason 7 on Windows OS, after previewing within the folder they reside in.

Tonight, I spent 4 hours just dragging and dropping various samples throughout Reason. It's completely changed - and improved - the way I work with the samplers. I can't recommend version 8 enough. It's money well spent, and a great step in the right direction.

That said, my Panorama P4 can now launch a menu directly from the P4 and allow me to browse and create instruments without ever looking at my computer monitor. All from my P4.

And only available in Reason 8. :)

What a surprise. A Reason endorsement from EnochLight!

Its not a drawcard for buying v8 because for me, not only do I view the release as poor value, but for me it actually sounds counter productive! As I mentioned previously, even if it was a free upgrade I would still be inclined to stick with v7.

For those wondering if the softube amps are a limited offer... that has not been mentioned, and Reason will need to have options for guitarists.... so the only way they will disappear is if the business arrangement changes... I would like to think that Props legal counsel looked at the contract properly after the Line6 debacle
It's not limited. They'll be included with all future versions.
Until they aren't, like the Line 6 stuff.

The dropping of the Line 6 stuff from Reason, and the fact that Propellerhead still hasn't gone higher PPI on their rack GUIs, are reasons for me to explicitly NOT buy an upgrade at this time.

But yeah, from version 5, unless you're really depending on the Line 6 stuff, you'll get a lot of new good stuff in Reason 8. As i'm on Reason 7, there's absolutely nothing in 8 that even remotely moves me. It's a pretty lame upgrade, from where i sit.

There's dense, really dense, and then curmudgeonly stubborn old man dense. :) Allow me to illustrate with just one small example:

We get it. You don't like R8 and want to marginalize it to the hilt, but when users write out detailed explanations of why it has helped their Reason workflow and you either ignore or blindly reject them out of hand as simple fan service, the less credible your position is becoming.

So how long did it take you to get that video done in order to try and prove a point? Seems like a fairly big distraction from your production workflow. I'm not entirely sure what it's trying to illustrate... that you can drop audio that's out of sync to your project ? All but the dark blue clips are not locked in to the tempo by the looks of it.

And out of interest, why is the 'out' meter on the transport bar all grey in your demonstration ? I can't say I have seen a colour-less meter like that before.

And I have no issue with the 35% of users that see R8 as a value upgrade. It's just that yours is a minority voice, so don't be so alarmed if there are users who don't agree with your evaluation of the new release.

I have said plenty of positive things about R8. Well not plenty, but some of the features are really great. That drag & drop, if it were implemented with a bit more thought, would be awesome. That browser window fixed only to the sequencer is really terrible though, for those who have their preferred multi-window setup across two or three monitors. It's silly that it doesn't appear on every window after unfolding. What if I wanted to use the drag & drop into the rack, but the rack is on screen three while my sequencer is on screen one? That's a loooooong way to travel. My mousepad isn't big enough to execute such a maneuver.

All the double-clicking will wreak havoc on my RSI, but I can always get a wrist brace. Yet another home studio expense

Numerous comments have also been made by me that drag & drop into OctoRex slots is GREAT. I prefer complex acoustic drums & percussion over electronic beats so being able to easily use ReFill sets designed for the old single slot Rex, but collected into one device with ease would be a godsend. Especially for my '1000 Blue Men' project.

It's difficult for me to imagine working for many hours into the night with a sequencer backdrop that's even brighter than R7 (which for me is already too bright). As I work in near-darkness, I have come to use the sequencer as my only light source in the room. It's a shining beacon of illumination, plus it stops me from treading on the cat. I guess R8 will ensure the little guy's safety even more.

And the device organization by developer... well I don't pay attention to who the developers are, only the names of the devices. Off the top of my head, I could not tell you who created the T2 Phaser, the Ivoks Synth, Microtune or the Audiomatic Retro Transformer. So there would be some learning I would have to undertake in order to get my head around that issue. Maybe there's an online memory enhancement course I can do in order to facilitate my R8 experience.

But being a reasonable gal, I'll submit a solution to this bickering. If you guys pass the hat around and come up with $129 USD to buy a license for me, I will come on board with an open mind and a heart that is true to exploration. I'm heading to the forest as of tomorrow morning for a spiritual awakening, so we can sort out the particulars on Monday when the Props office is open for business.

If one of you can decide on who will be the treasurer to accept the donations, that would be great.

KarmaShaman wrote:^^ good list. From v5 you get heaps.

Most of which can be had on a second hand R7 licence for $150. I suggest the OP buy from someone privately and not get stuck with R8 and the inability to drop back to the superior R7 version.
I'm little bit going to your opinion today! After installing version 7, I have spent few hours going back and forth between 7 and 8 trying to weigh what I I like/miss in 7 vs what I dislike/gain in 8. In the end I really couldn't stand the bright and monotonous colours in ver 8! I mean when I opened version 7 after installing it, I really said "Wow!" I immediately felt a very inviting environment.

The 'cancel' button was in favour of version 7 also. It is faster to cancel than to have another workaround. Anyway, in any case I still have version 8 ;)

I didn't upgrade for full price! It is complex to explain but in the end I spent about $50 dollars more and got version 8 upgraded from version 7, so I got the two. I feel that the $50 worth having the latest version, who know? maybe the Props make a free 8.5 upgrade with a new nice interface :)

To the OP: version 5 -> version 7 or 8 is worth it because you get really a lot especially the effects and a new big Mixer. Try version 8 demo. If you like the new interface, then upgrade directly to version 8, otherwise try to do the same as I did, get version 8 upgraded from version 7 so you can return to 7 just in case you can't feel at home with the bright colours. But bear in mind that songs created with version 8 can't be opened with version 7.
