Wish I had seen the postings about WavesUniverse here.bharris22 wrote:Bought for $55.90 at Wavesuniverse - thanks!
I purchased a license of Waves Codex for $9 more from AudioDeluxe for $65 using coupon code EA50COD along with AudioDeluxe's regular special monthly coupon discount.
Well, at least I still didn't end up paying full price for it.

Thanks for that tip! I hadn't heard of wavesuniverse before. You just cost me $56.hibidy wrote:wavesuniverse is your friend, they are honoring the coupon and you'll get it for 55.90. You can't beat that with a stick!

Yep - sorry, just saw these questions. Wavesuniverse is definitely your friend here. Just e-mail them and they will usually do the best they can with any available coupons (plus everyday prices that are lower than those on the Waves website).

Yeah I think it is great sounding synth. Codex is amazing though.

My conclusion from following this thread: To create a good synth, you may need a nice UI, you may need nice oscillators, you may need to have a nice sound, you may need a nice set of filters. But nothing is more important than to have the right set of vouchers.

To be fair, I normally only buy something if I think I have an actual immediate use for it. However, if I see something that looks like it MIGHT be useful at some point and vouchers/sales put it into a price range where I wouldn't regret the purchase if I ended up not using it, then I will take advantage of it.
If not for the intro price and voucher, my reaction to Codex would have been, "Looks pretty nice. Don't need it for any current projects. Pass." just like it was with Serum.
All that said, I spent a little time with Codex last night. It is indeed very accessible; I love it when you can just start designing on a synth immediately without reading a word of documentation. I'm not much of an arp user, but I quite like the design of the one in Codex. Is it more elaborate than the one from Element? I need to go back and have a look at that.
Soundwise- well the sample import feature seems incredibly important. Not a lot of the bundled wavetables leaped out at me in a creative way, but I will admit that I'm probably just not very creative when it comes to WT programming. It's not like subtractive synthesis where if you think it you can program it. So, nice presentation, cool arp, probably good potential for people willing to invest time creating/curating wavetable samples. But I don't see an immediate use for it in my work.
