If iZotope don't come up with a solution for a reliable automatic conversion (which most probably does not exist, looking at the XML code posted here earlier today), for me the only way to go will be to start a new subscription from scratch, or to release full libraries only, or to drop the whole v2 thing and continue with v1 which will exclude all future Iris users, or delete Iris and be done with it.
Decisions, decision, decisions - or hire someone for manually converting 400+ Iris patches, cast away on an island with solar energy, a computer, some coconuts and Iris v1+2 only.
What I would suggest is any old patches keep as V1 as people who have already subscribed obviously have 1. Any new patches make for both and make a separate subscription for Iris 2 (with a crossgrade price for people who have the V1 subscription).
Hmmm, sounds like a plan...

How much?

Wow, I am work, saw the announcement, skimmed the web site, then came here. At first glance the update for $99 looks pretty nice. However, not importing old patches correctly seems like a significant problem. Simon, given your expertise at creating so many beautiful-sounding patches and "street cred" as a sound designer, I am very surprised that you were not consulted on Iris 2.

As a spectral synthesizer taken as something new, I think Iris 2 looks very appealing, but as an upgrade it sounds like a questionable way to spend $99... hmm.

I don't like the new interface as much as the old one

Or $149 as $99 is a time limitted offer...

jrrshop will also offer the upgrade version (cheaper then directly from iZotope)...

Some more analysis of what's going on:
In v1 each oscillator had it's dedicated amplitude envelope, now Envelope 5 is by default assigned to the master gain, the other envelopes exist, with their parameters set as programmed in v1, but they are not assigned to the gain parameter of each oscillator. Also as the Sub-Osc has been substituted by a regular oscillator, all Sub-Osc settings are of course gone for good as it seems.

The parameter formerly named "Loudness" now "Intensity" also doesn't translate to the new patches.

It looks half finished to me - not good use of space, ugly knobs with irregular edges, childish colours, macros in a floating window, what looks like Comic sans used for the font!

I bet whatever you want, that this $149 upgrade price will become $49 after 6 months or so (even as a short period sales). I am not interested at all right now.

The LFOs have improved in the way that they now have a Phase and a depth control which can be modulated, they are still only bipolar (an option would have been good), the shapes can be manipulated somewhat, max LFO speed is still at 50 Hz, I had hoped for much higher rates for FM-like effects. The slopes of the envelopes can now be edited which is good, well basic, but good.

A question for Simon,
Apologies if it has already been asked...
Will your upcoming subscriptions continue to be for Iris 1 or will they start being for Iris 2?

I can see where this upgrade can mess up a lot for you.

As Iris is something I do more for myself in experimentation than songwriting, I will have to think about this. Have already decided against upgrading RX3, but Iris is a little different in my mix.

This looks like a good version for people that didn't buy v1 and some of the expansions, as it offers much "bang for the buck" for first time users.

I didn't buy Iris, despite being a subscriber of Simon's stuff, but now with the 11 GB sounds included, this looks like a good deal to me, and GAS develops quickly. I just hope that Izotope does the right thing and contacts Simon regarding patch conversion. They must have a tool - I can't imagine they had a poor "conversion slave" sitting there and translating all the patches by hand. Well, or maybe they had...?

I have no idea what to do right now, let me sleep over it, for now Iris 1 lives and I will keep on developing sounds for it.
