waaaaahnbeat lol

damn, i must have missed this thing becoming 'legit'.
just a suggestion, If you are as serious as you appear to be about relaunching dubturbo as an actual daw, i'd suggest a rebrand that steers far away from the original name.

also, theres little point in trying to be a 'does everything' DAW, theres plenty of options already for that.
Probably better off sticking to a narrower audience, and focussing on making that area better than anything else. Considering the previous marketing, you might be better off making something more akin to MPC/Geist

Don't ask my why, I read that as "disturbo", whatever, it was funny in my head at the time.

@ Gamecat666 :: Thanks!

Yep, it's alive, it's real, and it's coming back strong :).

It's still a toss up re the name, I know it has a lot of bad buzz, but being in my shoes, would you really just push 5 years of marketing to the side? 70K users that know the name and many are still beginners that don't follow the forums/hate/etc. or never capped it out, and the many funnies/ups/downs we've had I'm having a hard time literally starting over with a totally new name discarding all this build up.

The transition period/redemption period may be longer, but I feel like a great come back is easier to accomplish than trying to recapture 70K new people or confuse our previous customers/those that know the name.. Would love some breakdown from you guys on why you would steer clear vs trying to revive and return matured. Also - yes even though we have all the features of the big boyz, our niche is still going to be in beat production/workflow efficiencies for beginners/intermediates so thanks for that and I agree trying to be everything to everyone doesn't work (end up being too advanced for beginners and not flexible enough for pro's).

@ Xenos :: I'm trying to fix the detuner and still haven't been able to pinpoint what's wrong as it all looks correct re preset names, automation enabled, etc. - might end up giving you a version with 20 more preset spots for you to fill vs trying to import/export patches until I can figure out what is happening with it.

@ghettosynth :: Disturbo - might have given me an idea for the next vsti heh thanks.

Also - thank you KVR as a whole - for both allowing me to redeem this a bit here and for the traffic (woke up today to a nice spike, vst's are all over the web/forums/vst sites all of a sudden, downloads are flying!). The WahnBeat vsti seems to be a lil' hit too (got a few emails from ppl laughing not understanding what is going on in it but liking the sounds lol). Those that missed it it's on the previous page (and now on the site too).

I already sold 10 beatz using these plugs. Day is miraculous.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

@norbz

Well, that's a funny idea with Wahnbeat, as well as the other plugins, but the problem with all these (combined) Synthmaker stock modules is that they need a huge amount of CPU power - when the code isn't optimized -, so it's nearly impossible to use several instances of them in one project (and then I have so many - better - free synths & effects that I don't need them). But you're right, it's a good marketing idea to give something shiny away for free to be in the limelight again! :party:

Anyway, I'm looking forward to testing the new Dub Turbo, and I hope it'll include some serious and advanced tools that help beat makers, rappers and hip hop producers to get creative and it won't be "just another" DAW with all the usual fancy stuff.

Post

Hi Norbz,

I'm gonna go ahead and sent you my Sindrone patches later today, along with a chart showing the correct pitch setting for each patch. Maybe there's something I'm doing that is causing the problems. I looked over the factory patches and actively tried to go for a different vibe than the rest of them, so it's possible the way I used this synth's features could be bringing out the bug. Btw, hope you don't change the chorus effect lol. Putting it very low on the mix knob and the depth knob all the way down makes a handy stereo widener, which adds depth to the sound without any obvious chorus effect :).

BTW, an idea if you ever decide to do a fully-featured, QUALITY synth (like Massive, Zebra, Diva, z3ta and Synthmaster)....you could call it "Just 1 Synth". Because then you only need "JUS WAAAAN" synth to make "awwwlll these off-da-chain soundz, knowwhati'msayin' dawg?" :hihi: And it'll pay for itself just by sellin' waaan beat :). Maybe offer the buyer a free padlock fake bling on a string with the company logo on it as well.

Just my 2 cents here, Norbz. I say stick with the name DubTurbo or some sort of variation of it. It has a good ring to it and i suspect that away from forums most of the people you'll potentially appeal to will know little of the history. I'm sure there's a few other developers out there that have used questionable marketing tactics in the past. It seems at least everyone here is willing to give you a second chance.

The fact that you are being quite open and good humoured about all this shows a decent personable side to yourself, the company and brand.

Hello,

just came by by curiosity an so I am absolutely missplaced here in anyway (no programmer, no pro, not into dubsteb or anything comparable, dont no nothing about the stories you are all talking about, an no nothing at all....).

And of course "orkestra beta" not adressed to me the same, but donwloaded it quit the same and just want to say I have fun with it ! With a not very good Core i3 win 7 and mulab free I was able to use two instances with no problems and it was just fun :) . If you could improve that maybe a little....

Of course there are "better" free synths, but I just love it cause it is kind of "fresh". Loaded in an instance of Wahnbeat and a bass and love just to play with it.

I know I am not your "target group" at all but please release orkestra as part of your synths on your page, for me it is the most useful one (I am a simple hobby musician between job and family just playing around with some ambient kind of stuff) and I really love the presets, especially the ehtnic and airy things.

So as I told, dont know nothing about your "history" but thanks for the fun to play around with your "toys" (thats not ment devaluating just for they make fun to play with) and I would really appreciate to see a final "orkestra" on your page.

Kind regards,

Richard

Feeling very humbled, I haz feels right now.

@aloysius :: Chhhhheeeeeeeee!!

@Tricky-loops :: It's taken some time for me to see it - but yes I agree when combining many SM vsti's they will indeed hit your CPU hard. I spent a good chunk of time going over all the denormals and maths and truncating them or adding noise at -180db to eliminate any unoptimized sections however my math skills only go so far and I do think there is a common SM high hit as you say (even when not stock, I'm trying many of their 'top' showcase synths and they seem to be the same re high-hits).

It's a shame indeed and at the very least it does hopefully allow people to utilize the best in each plug vs trying to run many at once (until we have a better set that is). And yes I still truly hope this calls on good dev's (have had a few inquiries from here so thank you) that would like to help be a part of this lil' history.. Marketing wise I couldn't have asked for anything better, karma/thankyou marketing has always been effective however I had no idea they would fly like this (also have been so deep in my own world that I'm genuinely surprised how much vst/au's have evolved in the past 5yrs and how big of a niche it now is on its own).

While I'm at it - also want to point out - the big youtube tutorial money explosion. As I watch the markets and what happens now when a new DAW or great VSTi gets launched, it correlates to what my affiliates use to do but instead of having incentive in a link under a video (or instead of JUST that), people are now simply making tutorials/reviews/etc. just for youtube ad money (well that and further monetizing in creative ways FROM baiting at youtube). Not naming names but the most recent big DAW that launched is a great example of this. Many third parties creating full 'how to' classes or 'overview' videos to help noobs or go advanced into stuff for pro's... I LOVE IT. It's essentially all marketing/monetizing but I'm happy that we're here now - while this is happening and can foresee a ton of third parties creating our 'how to' videos that will go deeper than our own as we keep motoring on dev etc. so I'm anticipating that many here will be able to take part by creating/selling sample kits, dubturbo template projects, mastering setups, tutorials, etc. etc.

@Xenos :: Deal, I'm still inspecting and trying variations of stuff but yes for now let's do that and I'll include them with your name as a pretext to each or something (or let me know common credit formats if you guys do that?). Thanks again from the bottom for doing this and I will remember this when it's time to come to market to show you and offer you first dibs on whatever you can create/add/monetize on your site (took a look good job :)).

@Mutantdog :: Thank you for that - would love to hear from others what you would do re the name. I also appreciate you noting the way I'm presenting this and handling criticism/etc. :).

EDIT: @Tatanka/Richard :: Your post popped up just as I posted.. Thank you! I am still a little worried about the ORKESTRA being WAY too CPU heavy but thank you for your comments and I'll wait until I have a few more people saying the same that it doesn't freeze up or hit 100% CPU right away. I do appreciate that you're out of the target market yet still had fun with them and see them as fresh vs shite!

Thank you!

EDIT: Maybe that was a lil' TMI, in short another thank you to KVR as today marked my biggest traffic spike since 2012 and 20+ sites/forums/blogs/etc. have picked it up (aka this placed holds mega weight I underestimated), I did some analysis of it all and spit it out here for other brand/site owners to inspect re karma/freebie marketing, if you caught the read great, if not sorry, upon review I realize it may not be wise to post stuff like this so I'm removing it.. and replacing it with a 'not horrible' quick demo of the wahnbeat :)
