I have a copy of the Advanced Guide that I'm staring at *right now*, dated 6/6, that says it has both Key and Channel aftertouch.

Is it possible that they actually have two models of this 88-key keyboard in production? Since I like having aftertouch, especially in a keyboard previously advertised to have aftertouch ( ;) ), I would take it back for a refund immediately. Of course, someone who didn't care so much about aftertouch might do otherwise, if the rest of the keyboard suited their needs. :D

I would definitely contact the store where I purchased the item, and let them know what happened, even if I had decided to keep the keyboard. The store might think it has aftertouch also, and not know about the issue yet. If you're really lucky, they might even offer to do something to make you a happier customer. (Don't hold your breath on that to happen though.) ;)

Hey there jdg, not to be too demanding, but could you give a little bit more detailed description of the "nice" feeling keys.

Are they a heavier or lighter weighted action?

How's the bounce?

Is it difficult to reach higher velocity levels?

How do extended playing sessions wear on your hands/wrists?

If you could answer these, I would VERY much appreciate this. I am using a weighted Kurzweill digital piano as a controller right now, and I find the action tremendously fatiguing to my wrists and hands. I was hoping this board would be a better replacement. I also find I have to strike the hell out of my keys to register higher velocity levels. Not ideal for sample libraries with velocity splits.

Thanks in advance....

nice means it feels mucho better then my old 'synth key' feeling.
it don't feel like a piano.. but it does feel as good as many of the 88key digital piano's i've played.

they are medium heavy (it doen't fee like a rhodes or anything) i can play 32nd notes (just not well.. as i'm not a real piano player :P )

re: velocity.
there are several velocity curve settings and some make it easier to reach high velocity so my left hand pinky can still make it hit 127

Hmm. I don't get on with my A-33 (which is like an A-37 only with more features, go figure...) but that may be more me than the keyboard.

The A-33 has less features, the A-37 is uge. ;-)

Confused. What's the A-37 got?

Its uge, bigger.

"Overview
The A-37 MIDI Keyboard Controller is designed with today's MIDI musicians in mind. Whether controlling a rack of synths or a sophisticated computer-based setup, the stylish-looking A-37 puts you in control with 76 velocity- and aftertouch-sensitive keys, GM2 compatibility and an easy-to-use interface."

I'm getting myself the Keystation 61es, since is half the price of the A-37, and not so big. ;-)

Yeah, the A-33 looks like that, only black and with more buttons.

So what is Aftertouch or Channel Pressure actually useful for? I've never used it, myself (since I don't have a MIDI controller), so I don't know if it's an issue.

Ohh, is good to use to replace the modwell. Let's say, you play a mini-moog LEAD synth. The MW is used to add vibrato, but you could replace that for Aftertouch. So when you want vibrato, you hold the key and press it harder. That's aftertouch in action, very neat. ;-) But I never really used it, and for the price, just use the left hand on the MW and you are good to go. :P

Thanks, WilliamK. Yeah, I'd imagine it would be useful for when you're using both hands to play a piano part. But then again, it's not *all* that often (although it's certainly not inconceivable) that you need both hands for a part that's going to need modulation like that. Also, couldn't an expression pedal play the same role, of controlling a parameter while both hands are occupied? It seems like the easier option, at least to me, to use your foot to control something like that. Of course, if someone could control both aftertouch and an expression pedal at the same time, I would be very impressed =P.

Ahhh, indeed, good point. But what are the models that has a expression pedal (volume pedal?) input? Are there midi-boxes that you can add that does that? Maybe an USB box? That would be good, since I really miss those pedals. 8)

I think the Edirols have inputs for a volume and an expression pedal. No aftertouch.
