Admittedly I went through it very quickly and just didnt find anything that was killer. I wouldn't say I completely hated the sounds, but nothing made me go "holy @$&$!(", which is what happened when I downloaded the additional patches to the MiniNova. I was looking for a few phatt basses and massive sweeps, but nothing jumped out. And did I miss an osc-sync sound in the defaults?

I've gotten some great sounds from my Venom, but nothing that approaches the sounds I can get quickly on the Sledge, and especially the Mininova. For the $175 I paid for it though, the Venom is massively underrated. It may not get the sounds I was looking for, or have the ability to mimic a phatt analog sound, but then nothing else really sounds like it either, for the most part.

I did some sculpting on the Sledge tonight and it is amazing how quickly you can get a good sound.

Oddly, there were 107 patches and the rest were all Initialized. 107? Is that how many it comes with? It made me suspicious about it being a used item, although it was immaculate and not a mark on it.

107??? My Blofeld has 1100  Still, it's how they sound that matters.

Some are usefull (like the organs and chorused basses) but there's a fair share of filler as well

yes, it only comes with 100 sounds and many are not very good. there is another bank you can download from the website. I don't know why there are so few, but it is easy to create your own. App sound has a bank that is pretty good.

Cool, thanks for the links. 100 Sounds delivered and 899 initialized ... Lazy as heck :) It took me 5min to create 2 great sounds so they could have at least spent a little time trying to showcase the synth with better or more included sounds. What a missed opportunity.

Probably not gonna spend $$$ on 3rd party sounds since I spend half my life programming synths, but I'll give them a listen.

Anyone know how to factory reset the Sledge? Couldn't find anything in the manual and searched the web high and low.

Post

use the spectre software and load the factory soundset and the synth will be the way it came from the factory.

Also the Sledge II has split/ layer but more importantly
with midi cc or realtime control via a Blofeld keyboard
you can dial in either the PPG, Notch12, Notch24, Comb+
or Comb - , as well as filter disable.

With a layer you can have two separate oscillators
with wavetables and with cc or a Blofeld you can detune
Osc1 (not possible from the front control).

If you need more info , just ask.
Also I have some youtubes on the Sledge:

Send the factory soundbank ("sledge factory sound bank 1" available from the website) using the SledgeSoundMapper (also available from the website).

btw, You can easily create an .exe wrapper for the SoundMapper using Lainch4j. I reverse-engineered the .jar file so I can load Blofeld sysex files, but they don't map obviously. Does anyone have the sysex file spec for the Sledge (I have it for the Blofeld)?

I looked at the KK and decided on the Sledge in the end. I feel like I made the right decision as I created about 30 patches the first few hours I had it :)

I really like the interface and the ability to send CC from any control. I'm fine with the keybed, and I actually like the way I can feel when you switch into the AFT. It's just right for the money. Besides, I'll never forgive Korg for the Oasys pci :?

Easy choice. Yesterday I noticed a King Korg for €550. Mint. The ad is 4 days old. I haven't seen people dumping the Sledge til so far. Not even the previous version.

Well, no aftertouch, no custom samples, cramped ui...I wouldn't call that an "Easy choice"

@johnrule

I think the design of the KK is hilarious. They even have a champaign version!
Speaking of versions.. I see this yellow synth and I want to paint it black. I'll cover the text with small strips of tape etc. Hopefully I can purchase it this year :hyper:

I like the look tbh. :)

Well, I have this project at a usable point for release now. I call it "SledgeHammer" because...I can :D

It is based on the Sledge SoundMapper obviously, but with some additions:

- You can name a patch.
- You can copy between lists.
- You have access to controls, including some of the hidden control.
- You can load Blofeld sysex files.

Now, before you get too excited about the Blofeld stuff, I should warn you that the bytes don't map well, so watch your ears (and your speakers) when checking them out. I contacted StudioLogic for the mapping, and they have not been forthcoming. If anyone has the mapping for the Sledge (I have the sysex for the Blofeld) please let me know.

There are also some things missing or not working yet. The "Move" feature is gone, but you can copy between lists. The "Send All" and "Get All" have not been enabled yet. You could use the script from either "Get One" or "Send One" button in a loop if you want to do this. And you cannot select multiple lines. I'm sure there are also some other things too, so please report anything, and I will fix/add.

This is an editable project file created in my Run Time Editor 3 (RTE3) so you can modify this any way you like. In fact, I am going to use this as a basis for a Slim Phatty editor.

As a general disclaimer, I will not be responsible for any damage, blah, blah, blah...you know the rest.

As well as some GREAT Blofeld Desktop tutorials that I'm definitively gonna check out. I need to dig deeper into it but I have bought way too many new synths and controllers the last year  :o

IMHO KK has better-sounding filters than Sledge, and overall a slicker and more open sound. Sledge sounds a bit compressed somehow (probably Blofeld legacy showing through)...

KK at 550€ is a freaking steal.
