It's still Sylenth 1 though, in a new version, native 64bit. No new features, no new engine, etc. So this makes sense. Maybe it'd have been enough to go to version 2.3, since it is not a huge upgrade. But it's still Sylenth 1.
If I remember right they work on Sylenth 2 (in version 1.0.0 I guess, or less). But that's another story
But a real Sylenth2 must be more than a mere facelift update.
Dune 2, Spire (soon Spire 2) and Serum (not really a VA) are practically killing it sound wise.

Personally, I gave up on Sylenth a while back. Hive and Spire offer me everything I want in that area of synthesis and more.
I do hope for Lennard that this update goes down well though, I hope it converts a decent amount of unauthorised users into paying customers. Perhaps if the money starts rolling in then it might be a better motivation for a proper feature upgrade.

I can't say anything about Serum, never tried it, but I know the other two and Hive as well, none of them sounds like Sylenth. They are all more capable of course in terms of features, but I prefer Sylenth in terms of sound quality and character as such.tristan- wrote:"'wrong"C-note wrote:Wrong, Neither of those can match Sylenth 1tristan- wrote:I don't know about it.deft_bonz wrote:hahaha... good oneaMUSEd wrote:Calling it Sylenth 1 v 3 is silly - they should just call it Sylenth 3.![]()

Well I presume the next Dune would be Dune 3, not Dune 2 2 - that's what I mean by silly. The FM7 thing is different and the number make sense anyway as they are still consecutive, it started with 7 for historical reasons. Since there was never a Sylenth 2 synth having it as Sylenth 1 3 (or 2 for that matter) just seems bizarre to me. I can see the logic for say Studio One - there the one denotes how they wish to position it (ie as your number one studio) so the number is not meant to have any ordinal function. But again with Sylenth it's just a 1.tristan- wrote:It's not Sylenth3 as in Dune vs Dune 2.aMUSEd wrote:Calling it Sylenth 1 v 3 is silly - they should just call it Sylenth 3.
It's Sylenth 1 v3, just as you can have Dune 2 v4.x etc etc
Same thing is FM7 vs FM8 from NI

Yeah people get confused when numbers are in the plugin name. Like Supa-Synth 4 version 1.0.1. Or Mega-Synth 3 version 5.3.1
That's the same here with Sylenth1. Don't mix name with versioning

Its name is probably the only stupid thing about that plugin

This is only speculation but I'm guessing that Len got the name from combining the original Synth1 (pretty sure it came out first) with the first 2 letters of his first name (len) so you get Sy -le-nth1.fluffy_little_something wrote:Its name is probably the only stupid thing about that plugin
Naturally, I could be wrong, but if you take it apart, it fits.
Not that the two synths have much in common at all, if anything.

Dune 2 is not compatible with version 1 at all....won't load V1 patches so hence the need for a new version number. (The current version is 2.21). I suppose there could be a Dune 3 but it would probably be a huge upgrade otherwise I think they'll just keep bumping the version number 2.22,2.23 etc.aMUSEd wrote:Well I presume the next Dune would be Dune 3, not Dune 2 2 -
As for Sylenth .vs Dune 2 neither can sound exactly like the other. Dune 2 can make a much wider range of sounds but Sylenth just has a special "attitude".
Instead of thinking one .vs the other think layering the two together. Combined they make an awesome sound. Their different characters really compliment each other very well.....
Anyway who cares what they call the next version of Sylenth as long as we stop calling it vapourware.
Oh and I always thought Sylenth was a clever play on the word Silence. I doubt it has anything to do with Ichiro's Synth 1 but I could be wrong........

Of course Sylenth comes from silence, but I fail to see the reason for those changes, let alone for the 1, which is a bit cheap, like e-mail ID's such as john1@hotmail.com

Nah, I don't really care about its name, just like I don't care about skinning plugins
But I don't like the word Sylenth, it sounds weak and fragile, and dirty because of the th. Exactly the opposite of typical Bantu languages with all their m's, k's and b's, and their full vowels (a's, o's and u's)
Makumba sounds much more powerful
