The Cakewalk lifetime license is only for a limited amount of time so this isn't a permanent thing for them which makes it a bit more calming that development will not fail on their end. A lot of people are jumping in on the deal but many are not and those people along with new users will be the ones that continue feeding money to Cakewalk for years to come.

I was going to take advantage of this offer, but then I had a few unforeseen events happen that took a toll on my finances throughout the whole summer.
I've fine with paying $99 annually though. I don't use Sonar nearly enough (yet) to justify a lifetime license anyway.

I wish they could be clearer about whether they will offer this to Mac users once the Mac version is for sale.

It's the same license. If you use it on PC, you will have access to the Mac version. I doubt they will be offering lifetime license as this was more of a thank you to people who have been supporting them for years. That's one of the reasons it has an end date.aMUSEd wrote:I wish they could be clearer about whether they will offer this to Mac users once the Mac version is for sale.
I don't believe the intention was originally to make it open for everyone. I may be wrong about that but the email we got informed us to not share with others and the code in the email was specific to our accounts.

I know that, the problem is I have no way to know whether it's going to be usable on Mac yet as there isn't even an alpha build to test. I've had the Windows version for years so I am a long time user but my experience so far with their Mac plugins has not impressed me with their Mac coding skills. So since I am Mac only now if I did go for the offer it would be a gamble.Mystic wrote:It's the same license. Apart from taking the risk, all you can do is judge by Cakewalks past Mac ventures, which have been pretty woeful, I think most but the rabid fanbois would agree, I see no reason for that to change. Just look at the latest recent update releases for Rapture Pro and Z3TA2 for Mac were, and how effective and well received they wereaMUSEd wrote: I know that, the problem is I have no way to know whether it's going to be usable on Mac yet as there isn't even an alpha build to test. Judging by the problems, not the least of which is products including Sonar, Rapture Pro just dropping into demo mode and people not being able to use them for that reason (and there are quite a number of people affected by this both Win and Mac) and now with there being for all intents and purposes zero official support available, and there hasn't been for many months, I think betting on Cakewalk might be a little risky. They are having enough problem dealing with the Windows side let alone throwing in a Mac version.
As a long time user, albeit ex user, I jumped on the lifetime updates when released, even though I no longer use Sonar, $99 seemed like a good deal to keep me in the loop should sometime in the future Cakewalk get their act together and Sonar luring me back, unlikely, nut worth the risk for me, it's only $99
Buggy software and NO Support, a wining combination
but hey you got Lifetime updates,
Say 'NO' to Clap

Yeah, this is really what's making me undecided about this. One of the things I loved about Sonar on Windows was it performed better than any other host (apart from Canatibile) with my Virus Ti, but I have no way to know if that would be the case on Mac. Cakewalk should promise to revisit the deal for Mac users when it's stable on Mac, not make us have to make a decision based on faith and guesswork.jinotsuh wrote:Apart from taking the risk, all you can do is judge by Cakewalks past Mac ventures, which have been pretty woeful, I think most but the rabid fanbois would agree, I see no reason for that to change.
