These were the first ones I found! They happened to have a corresponding mushroom filter in Tyrell:Taron wrote:![]()

...that's all I have to say! I gotta find them!
Here's a quick preview what it sounds like:

I have to admit that I didn't really care for your original entry. (Which mostly isn't your fault, BTW - since I'm just not a fan of those "happy go lucky" songs in general)wagtunes wrote: Anyway, for anybody who cares, here's the Vocaloid version.

But I actually liked this version. Well done!
If you ever want to touch this song again, let me close with one little suggestion:
I think the Vocaloid track / the lyrics could stand out a tiny bit more - specifically in those parts where there is a lot of doubling with the melody synth, I'm guessing the song would improve further if those synth parts were a bit toned down (either in volume and/or by playing less.)

That's quite impressive, Taron!Taron wrote:Oh, hey, here's a quick example of my choir patch, which really sounds more like a choir and strings patch, once the modwheel opens up....but it's really kind of neat. I have two reverb on it, which does make it sound drenched...uhm...because it is, but still:

Thanks for sharing the patch...
After trying it, I have to agree that it really needs reverb... Especially in your short example the processing seems to contribute quite a bit to the final (and very nice) sound.

I guess if you eat those mushrooms the sound will become like that

Those super-Mario mushrooms have my head spinning! Didn't you like my philharmonic orchestra example? I think the violins are especially realistic.ATN69 wrote:I guess if you eat those mushrooms the sound will become like that

Outstanding! I was impressed by the Dynamics and the human feelz.prime wrote:Those super-Mario mushrooms have my head spinning! Didn't you like my philharmonic orchestra example? Mmmh, maybe I still don't know enough about sound design and synths - or I'm just to stupid for this synth in particular...
While trying to build a preset that reacts to the modwheel by altering both amp decay and opening up a filter, I discovered a strange phenomenon:
Altough I have NO modulation on any of the oscillators (and drift is off, BTW), I can hear a distinctive change in pitch as well.
I attached the preset for you to experiment.
Just hit the same note repeatedly while moving the modwheel up and down, and you'll hopefully hear what I described.
After fiddling quite a while with this, I noticed that this effect vanishes (i.e. the pitch stabilizes) if the decay for Env1 is pushed up higher... but that in turn also reduces the "pluckiness" of the sound (which I like.)
So, for anyone following along, here's my actual question:
Is this expected behaviour? (And if so, why?)
Or is it a bug?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Not happening for me, pitch is consistent (on OSX / Bitwig).OneShortMoment wrote:... I have NO modulation on any of the oscillators (and drift is off, BTW), I can hear a distinctive change in pitch as well.

Had I done the song with other synths (not an OSC) it would have sounded completely different. Like I said, just didn't want my work to be for nothing so I whipped up some stupid lyrics and tossed 'em over the top of what I had. If you listen to my Vocaloid playlist, the stuff there is much better by a ton.OneShortMoment wrote:I have to admit that I didn't really care for your original entry. Found a nice free soundbank, really worth checking out, found a nice and useful guitar patch already! http://audiomindproject.com/shop/ Just scroll down to the last product and enter "0" before checkout.
Seems they close the site after September 30th, so there is also a big sale going on for soundbanks for other synths if you are interested.

After trying it, I have to agree that it really needs reverb... Especially in your short example the processing seems to contribute quite a bit to the final (and very nice) sound.
Sometimes, when you work with synths, you have to use effects like reverb and EQ to really bring out all their qualities. Tyrell has an interesting filter, but a very stubborn oscillator. If you want to use the formant like bandpass combination it literally forfeits the normal filter function and you really need another filter to tame the sound again. The reverb combination helps there, too, since the reverb acts as a low- and hipass filter, too. It reduces the "buzzing" enough to bring out the gorgeous formants.
Reverb can also be used to create a kind of physical body resonance to a sound, again elevating the potential of a synthesizer. There are other ways to achieve that, like with any effect that has feedback (chorus, flanger- and above all- phaser!). These are interesting things you can consider on your journey into tailoring your own sounds!
I can't wait to give you my first vst, which has many exciting ways to shape your sound.
But for now...Tyrell + Effects = Great Stuff!

Confirmed in V3.0. I hear/see in SPAN a drop of 1 semitone when the filter is closed.OneShortMoment wrote:Is this expected behaviour? (And if so, why?)

I would call it a property of analog imperfections which we're all loving.

If it hasn't already been shared I've found here some free presets to use
