Hey, guess what ?
If you were there at the time, you would have said the same thing back then.
Not everyone loved the Beatles at the time.
In fact, many thought they were naff back then.
Of course they were wrong then as well.
So if you were a teenager back then what would have been your genre ?
whatever it was,I guess it would have been a bit weird.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

I don't think it's quite about that though. Teenage fans, of whoever, are a different thing. They're just teenagers.dellboy wrote:Hey, guess what ?Aloysius wrote:Beatles fans are a bit weird.

Every grownup will point back to the music of their teenage years as being the best ever made.ghettosynth wrote:

All fans of "The Smiths" were teenagers in the 80s.
All fans of "Oasis" were teenagers in the 90s.
It just so happens that my teenage years were when the Beatles bought out Seargent Peppers, Abbey Road, The White Album, Let It Be.........
........hang on though, those were the best Albums ever.

Be careful with universal statements like that. I don't do any such thing. I have an affinity for music that appeared at different times of my life, but, as a rational adult I recognize that good music and bad music is always being made.dellboy wrote:Every grownup will point back to the music of their teenage years as being the best ever made.ghettosynth wrote:

In fact, I consider much of the music of my teenage years to be eye-rollingly bad.
Now, if you were to say that a lot of adults are largely irrational and harbor beliefs about their particular tastes that aren't supported by evidence, well, then I'd agree.
That wasn't my point though. I wasn't saying anything about teenage tastes. I was talking about the weirdness of Beatles fans which seems to transcend generations. I've had a few friends like that, the word tiresome comes to mind.

All You Need is Love.
I still believe that.

I think you have just contradicted your rule about universal statements.
I will give you another rule.
"The exception [that] proves the rule"
I am a Beatles fan,not just because they were great, but 55 years later people are still debating if they really were great. But I have liked, and continue to like new music as it comes along.
If you have friends that suffer from teenage arrested development, and will counter no other music than the Beatles,or for that matter, none other than their chosen genre, then I agree, they are weird.

I have not read this thread, but if your friends have pointed out how the Beatles evolved in less than ten years, then they are not weird, but right.ghettosynth wrote: I was talking about the weirdness of Beatles fans which seems to transcend generations. "Love Me Do" came out in 1962. By the time the Bealtes spilt, their compositions were unrecognisable from their roots in the Merseyside sound. Yet all their contemparies remained pretty much static,or just plain died away.
It is the variety within their music that has rarely been equaled since. Most bands have a "sound" and their music revolves around that, but the Beatles made huge effort to sound fresh with each new album.

Yeah I'm the same - it's not so much a rule as an assumption.ghettosynth wrote:Be careful with universal statements like that. I don't do any such thing. I don't find that true at all of the folks I know. It tends to be true of people who are not really enthusiasts of music itself - more like music from certain time periods triggers great feelings that stretch wider than the music itself perhaps.dellboy wrote:

I remember sitting in a pub and a friend of mine, with a big grin on his face, said 'The Beatles are the ultimate aren't they. Well aren't they?!!!'Aloysius wrote:Beatles fans are a bit weird.

Whatever spin you put on it people often become fixated on the music of their youth. But it goes without saying that anyone on KVR Forums takes music more seriously than the average person. I have a wide eclectic range in musical taste, but many on here seem to be "EDM" music only. How many of those got into "EDM" as a teenager I do not know, but if they did it would of course support my general rule.do_androids_dream wrote:. It would have been better if your friend had defined what ultimate meant for him. They were never the ultimate Rock Band, nor Folk, nor Country, nor Heavy Metal, nor Blues, nor etc,etc,etc.do_androids_dream wrote:I remember sitting in a pub and a friend of mine, with a big grin on his face, said 'The Beatles are the ultimate aren't they. But the ultimate "Pop Band" ,well yeah, unless you would like to parry a better alternative.
