Since tremolo is basically just volume automation it's allowed in my interpretation of the rules.HiEnergy wrote:Are modulating effects allowed?mehum wrote: ...

Phaser, chorus, flanger are in the time-manipulation category and not allowed.
If Pencheneg Tremolo offends anyone I can change this to be automated instead.

Automating volume or any existing parameter is perfectly fine. The only thing where I would see a really dark gray zone was if there was any tonal modulation of EQ or filters (with external LFO or even Oscillators) behind an instance, because that could introduce sound that wasn't part of the original synth. However, automating EQ or filter to adjust general timbre is fine. I mean, the idea is that the synth is the only sound source used and its character is not altered by pitch and/or time (stretching) modulation.
Especially in mehum's track I can't hear any problems...

I use Pecheneg Tremolo a lot of the time for my OSC's. Never had a complaint from BJ! It is only volume automation in the end. You just get great control over the waveform applied to the automation which is why I used it in preference to the tremolo in LotS (sorry Taron!).HiEnergy wrote:Are modulating effects allowed?mehum wrote: ...

Interestingly, a tremolo effect can sometimes fool the ears into thinking it's a vibrato effect!

Well, what I've called "Tremolo" in LotS was really for the phaser and not the volume. I felt that the effect would describe it best, but it's a bit deceiving. No need to apologize for that, Bob!

whaaat but I tested it... agh... could you PM me the instructions to reproduce? Edit: Oh, it always glides in legato mode...... wtf howwww this was working before.Taron wrote:Glide: legato still doesn't work! You should have a look at that!
Mehum, I love the track. It sounds like you were mindful of your parameter settings. The sliders have a huge range because there are certain settings that work when some parameters are in the extreme range and others are conservatively set, so you have to resist the urge to just crank everything up.
Cool risers, and quirky melodies, good clear mix.

Sorry for the post out of nowhere. Background is a question I was asked on soundcloud. Because I have found several tracks the past round with some frequency collision problems, and people asked me what plugins I use to avoid them. On a analytical side I would recommend to take a look at this post beta software, which allows you to see the spectrum of 4 channels (pay version 16) in a single display, each channel with it's unique color: https://www.kvraudio.com/product/spectrum-by-ben-schulz (actually I use Melda Production MMulitAnalyzer but that is not free...). After detecting collisions in that tool, it's usually a EQ or even a dynamic EQ or MB-Compressor to tame frequencies...obviously.

- fixed legato glide mode (moved the handling of the pitch glide on/off to the per-sample thread instead of the midi thread. not sure why it wasn't working in the midi thread.)
- added linux version (let me know if it works)
(didn't realize version number was only changing on windows, will fix for next version)

Already made some interesting presets for my entry, so if sound is going to change with future updates, I'll better stay with 2.1Architeuthis wrote:- fixed legato glide mode (moved the handling of the pitch glide on/off to the per-sample thread instead of the midi thread. not sure why it wasn't working in the midi thread.)

Julian, for the latest version, all you should have to do is set the yellow slider (CurveMultiply) to 0 to ensure your patches sound the same.
I will be ensuring as I move forward that patches sound the same.

Great, Thanks! And thank you guys for a very interesting synth - I think I'm starting to understand it nowArchiteuthis wrote:Julian, for the latest version, all you should have to do is set the yellow slider (CurveMultiply) to 0 to ensure your patches sound the same.
