I am going to do a live stream on youtube in a bit and go into these limiters and testing and using them FYI

Post

I haven't had the chance to check this out by myself yet, so wondering what people think of the new algorithms, which is the main attraction for me?

That, and the sidechaining feature, which has not been talked about either.

This discussion seems to have developed into a talk purely about ISP, which for me, is just such a minor thing. If that + metering is the biggest deal about v2, I'll happily continue with just v1.

I was expecting a low latency mode for tracks. Not delivered... :(
I'll continue to use TrackLimit.

Same here. And IMHO the new features don't justify the 70 Euro upgrade price from v1.

Very underwhelmed. Sticking with V1 here as well.

A cite about true peaks topic from the FabFilter ProL2 manual: "Note that true peak metering isn't exact science: there are many different ways to implement ITU-R BS.1770 compliant metering, which might result in slightly different readings. Differences of 0.1 or 0.2 dBTP between different true peak meters are not unusual. Our true peak meters use high internal oversampling and have been verified with all test audio as provided by ITU itself to ensure compliance."

In v1 you had the possibility to link input & output gain but additionally the new unity gain is a really great feature to quickly compare the limiters effect. New overhauled oversampling modes ensure snappy envelopes on very fast and short transients. I wouldn't say it is necessary on every audio source but I already got nice results with it on a song. Highlighting the peaks within the display is a small but very useful gimmick. I'm very thankful for the loudness metering. Usually I had to use another tools for measuring but now it's all in one plugin. I didn't have the chance to test the new modes on enough material, but I can hear positive differences on some problematic songs I had by switching through them. The new infinity display flow mode comes very handy.

Now having all these improvements and new features I can't complain about my personal upgrade price of only 50€. v1 was my goto limiter and v2 improves the workflow and sound again.

This thread turned very technical, which is ok no problem.

But I find it strange to not see here by some of you any reviews or appreciation words about Pro-L 2. Almost no word if someone actually likes it or not…

I like it. It sounds very nice. After getting over the true peak issue I began to explore it for sound. I already have limiters I use for mastering and ProL2 is not suitable, for me, for mastering. So the next thing to look at was its potential use for tracking and possibly as a first stage mastering limiter for character.

I am going to do another live stream (probably tonight) to explore the use of the sound of ProL2 in these applications.

TruePeakLimit testing
Pro-L2: TruePeakLimiting ON, OverSampling x4, Out:0.0(default),
HOFA System Meter: ISP Mode ON,
Youlean Loudness Meter 1.5 shows True Peak,

If I'm setting Pro-L2 Out to -0.1 or -0.2,I get more better results.
so far,I'm satisfied to Pro-L2 :tu:

Yeah, in my testing during the live feed I did I determined as you did that a -0.1dB ceiling was enough to suppress ISPs. So its not technically a true peak limiter but for all practical purposes its good enough because all you need is a 0.1 ceiling.

I will probably wait for a good sale to upgrade. I have too many high latency limiters already. Not in the market for another atm.
It sounds good though, no doubt, as do my alternatives.

-Cheers

Even a -0.01dB ceiling is enough (yes, you can set that in the plugin).

He gets it :tu:

The funny thing is.. limiting is about 1% of what mastering is. Yet they're marketed like it's the holy grail of mastering. I hate the bloody things - they all sound crap when compared to the unlimited, dynamic version of the track. They're a necessary evil unfortunately.
