I haven't ReWired in a long time, but one limitation with Reason is that if you ReWire into another DAW, you can't use VST in Reason. You'll have to use the host DAW for that.
Thanks, that helps a lot! Rewiring is really new to me, but I'm seriously considering buying Reason v10 mostly for the instruments and players. I'm pretty familiar with Studio One, so I can add effects and stuff there.

Rewiring Reason to Studio One, in my experience just slows me down and my actual CPU down. It's like trying to work in a convoluted way with two different workflows. I often feel that Reason sounds sub par instrument wise to what I'm use to now in the VST world..

I have 10 times as many VST instruments and effects that I've accumulated in less than 4 years than what what I've had in 13 years of using Reason, and that's with around 14 additional RE's.

If you're not using Reason 10 exclusively on it's own where you have little else better, you'll probably end up finding that Reason 10 is more of a novelty add-on that you'll rarely ever use.

I thought when I moved from Reason to another daw that I'd use Rewire with Reason regularly, but that simply hasn't been the case. So many more options and choices elsewhere.

In time you might feel the same, but then you might rather have the option to have it, rather than not, even if something different to play with.

@INTRANCER: Thanks for the frank feedback! I'm certainly guilty of buying for novelty, and then not really using something. I already have quite a few VST's, like Komplete v9, SynthMasterOne and v2, TruePianos, Pianoteq Stage v4, EZKeys/Drummer, Addictive Drums/Keys, JamStix 4, etc...so there's definitely overlap, but I'm starting to kinda like Europa and Grain as I demo them. I'll have to seriously balance the novelty factor, though especially if Rewire can become a CPU killer...I don't need that, for sure.

Thanks again,
G

The question for myself before buying Reason was: "Will I be more productive and creative with it?" The answer was "Yes".

From the synths point of view, I do believe that Reason with the new instruments and the already existing RE, is on par with the VST world. Anyway, there is nothing is stopping me from loading the VST plugs.

I have VST instruments and effects covered with virtual dust and many are uninstalled even! I don't use them for many reasons. But although I consider it a loss, I couldn't know my next step without making mistakes.

Anyway, the usefulness of a tool varies from a person to person, and for me Reason is useful and worth it :)
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Good stuff! I have some dusty VST's too; after a while I've narrowed things down to what's practical and useful. Thinking it through though, I could always export stems from Reason rather than rewiring..

Actually this is the same way I'm thinking! I could always use Cubase/Reaper (in my case) for managing the audio stems, but I doubt it as I'm not that interested in mixing. I just found mixing the nastiest obstacle for being productive, but it is 'evil necessity' :hihi: Let's see how I can manage all that in Reason alone for my next 'hit' :clown:

I'll be pulling for you to have a platinum release!!

I successfully purchased Essentials from JRRShop, and upgraded it to Full, without issue. But the download from Propellerhead is painfully slow...

I think it's great that lots of people can use Reason now, but I've not seen these kind of discounts from a DAW dev before.

It just seems really desperate IMO.
It doesn't inspire confidence, that's for sure.

They've also started a desperate referral program, where you get a 15% coupon (WOW!) if you successfully pimp Reason to a friend.

I'd love to meet the genius who dreamt up that one.

This nonsense aside, if you take Reason for what it is, and don't foolishly spend money on any rack extensions, this current deal works out to be a good one.

I was sitting at R7, I think, when they offered a discount on upgrading to R10 (just a couple of months after it was released. another troubling sign?), and I'm glad I did.

It was well worth the discount upgrade price, but no more, imo.

I never had Reason before this deal. I looked at it as a way of picking up some really good classic Synths (Thor, etc.) with some top notch effects, and will use it with ReWire/Ableton. I tried using it as a DAW for OSC109, but quickly bailed when I discovered there was no way to freeze a track other than the tedious duplicate/bounce/mute process. But I will say that it's MIDI editing tools are substantially better than Ableton and more akin to Logic.

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but Reverb.com has been running another bundle sale for serveral weeks now. Reason 10 + Soundtoys or Reason ) + Arturia v Collection.
I'm happy with my current DAW/DAWs, so I'm hoping for another bundle of Soundtoys with the Arturia Collection.
