Set yourself to be inspired. Try to play songs by ear—even just finding the scale. Learn new tricks and experiment with modifying them. Listen to what sounds cool and what doesn’t, and just play with it. I made huge progress after a year of simply improvising because all I wanted was to have fun, so I did.
