Quite a nice sounding compressor, as expected. Can't actually the tell the difference between the 3 new modes though, and the auto makeup gain way overcompensates like it does on Barricade. The minimum 50ms release kind of rules it out as a percussion smasher but I have the Arturia FET-76 for that. The Slider Assist function doesn't seem all that useful to me.

I wish the new Toneboosters plugins would remember the GUI size for new instances. Whenever I open a new Barricade the GUI is inexplicably set to 93% and I have to change it every time. With this compressor it opens at 100% even though I selected 125% last time.

The minimum release time of a Urei 1176LN Compressor is 50 ms (0.05 Seconds) and goes up to 1100 ms (1.1 Seconds).
Attack time is 20 microseconds (0.00002 Seconds) up to 800 microseconds (0.0008 Seconds).

The release time is program-dependent: it is quicker after transients to obtain a more consistent level, but it slows down after sustained and heavy compression to reduce pumping effects. The threshold is set higher on higher ratios.[1]

Just FYI: The initial release has only a very simple envelope follower - nothing to be impressed by... But you probably know the drill by now: you can expect significant improvements to show up in upcoming releases, based on feedback from the valuable community on kvr and other forums.

We have an initial all-new envelope follower that we're testing right now that sounds more transparent and musical so stay tuned

will there be at some point a complete overhaul / new version of the Bus Tools and the Track Essentials bundles?

I don't think so. ToneBoosters have plucked individual plugins from the bundles, giving them significant updates and letting them stand on their own. I think that will just continue. Would be interesting to see a new Sibalance or Evoke. Imagine a new Sibalance that really gave Soothe a run for its money.

I've upgraded from BusTools and will give this a proper workout this weekend.

PS Jeroen you have the BEST GUI scaling in the industry, bar none. The way these V4's adapt to however you pull and stretch them, is pretty unreal.

++1 for a V4 Version of Sibilance . I´m waiting for it since the first V4 plugin was released.
Use the V3 Version on every mix.
No1 feature request: Extend the processing range down to the bass frequencies.

Yes, the behavior curves. For instance, that attack time is misleading. It STARTS super fast, but the curve will soften its grip on the transients the slower you set the release. So even though it always begins to work lighting fast, there is plenty of slowing down of the entire mechanics the more you move the release knob.

It also has other tricks. The 1176 is program dependent, and the ratio control also affects the threshold. As you increase the compressor ratio, the threshold deepens and the knee hardens for effect.

They have an option for that. Set your desired GUI settings, then go into menu and "save default settings". Then it'll load up with those settings next time. Beware though, this includes all settings in the plugin, not just GUI.

That doesn't work. For me at least. Barricade 4, VST2 version, FL Studio, Windows 10. Every time, it opens at 93% without any of the other settings saving. Same goes for the reverb, it opens at 97%. Only one that saves settings is the EQ.

I'm also on FL Studio and Windows 10. Must be the VST2 then that makes it unavailable. I'm using VST3 and it works for the two plugins i have, Barricade and Reelbus.

maybe because it´s a new plugin based on new code? I mean you wouldn´t think that for instance MJUC should be seen as a successor to dc8c, just because it´s written by the same developer and belongs to the same fx category or whatever. or am i missing something?

I don't know anything about what percentage of its code is new - which is exaxtly the same for me for all the other V4 plugins which all were regarded as successors to V3 plugins if there was a V3 of the same type of plugin
(There are e.g. vast differences between Reelbus V3 and V4...)

There have been numerous requests over the years for a V4 of Bus Compressor and I find it strange that a new one comes out that seems to be a completely unrelated product. I always thought Bus Compressor was mostly about clean and transparent sum compression...
