Ok, I was wrong about thunderbolt being usb c, but it still does exist on PCs as well as macs, and I've heard more than one person (thought not here) trying to claim that it is mac exclusive. Also, I did explain myself as much as I really can about ASIO. I don't know what else you'd want me to say.imrae wrote: Fri Jul 17, 2020 8:13 amThat burden generally lies on the person making an extraordinary claim.Dafydd Powell wrote: Wed Jul 15, 2020 7:36 pmWant to explain why or just contradict me without presenting any evidence?imrae wrote: Wed Jul 15, 2020 11:20 amNoDafydd Powell wrote: Wed Jul 15, 2020 12:33 am ASIO is literally the exact same thing as core audio, albeit with an unnoticeable amount more lag.
Hmm, I think there's a pattern here.Dafydd Powell wrote: Fri Jul 17, 2020 1:08 am
Thunderbolt exists on PC too. It's literally just usb type c.
Honest question for mac users

This is why it's hard to take you seriously. Couple this with your "lag" on PCs that's only noticeable on slow machines... and it's obvious you're not that familiar with either OS, no matter how much time you've spent on them. It's incredibly easy to fix problems on OS X, and you can fine tune Windows to behave ASIO wise very very well.Dafydd Powell wrote: Wed Jul 15, 2020 12:33 am And there's more. Mac OS is harder to fix problems with and in my few months of using it I came across more of them than I have in 11 years of Windows usage (such as files and apps behaving weirdly), less intuitive to use (again I used it for months so it's not that I didn't take the time to learn the basics),
ASIO is still inferior to Core MIDI, but if you're not a "power user" it's not really a big deal. Network MIDI, multiple MIDI applications open at the same time without conflicts and Inter Application MIDI for example.
To ASIO's credit, it used to be possible to get slightly lower latency than Core Audio, but last time I checked on that was 10+ years ago.
When we're talking about laptops, we're talking about Intel, and Apples reasonable demand not to have to change the design of their laptops to be thicker and heavier in order to accommodate larger core counts. They're ditching Intel for exactly the reasons you mention, so it's kind of a weak point to make.
You admit right away to using one OS for at the very least 10 times longer than the other, this is going to affect your experience. Couple that with the fact that macs are for whatever reason even more expensive in the UK and you're of course going to be biased. I haven't even touched on the software differences, applications specific to both OS that might affect your choice.
All this aside, the startling thing to me about these threads is why? Why do people care about what other use? The car comparison comes to mind, Mercedes is much more expensive than Toyota, even the parts are more expensive, both have great reliability, so why would anyone choose Mercedes? Do people argue this?

They could just switch to AMD instead, of course, but would rather force you to only be able to run mac OS by making it ARM - based instead of running on x86 like both intel and AMD do. As for my "lag", I don't really see what makes me wrong here: ASIO nowadays, at least for audio, literally just is the same as core audio, but slower by an unnoticeable amount. Where was I wrong about that?machinesworking wrote: Fri Jul 17, 2020 3:51 pmThis is why it's hard to take you seriously. I guess what you said about cars is exactly the point. I'd pick a toyota and have a few thousand extra instead of any mercedes that isnt an AMG, as I care about performance more than looks, status, etc. The reason I started this thread, which you would know if you had bothered to read the original post or about half of my replies at this point, is that I just wanted to know why people choose mac, and if I was missing anything.
Not replying to this thread anymore. Almost everyone has literally tried to say the same few things, and I'm sick of typing out the same "I was just interested" reply over and over again.

If that were even remotely true you wouldn't be spending your time arguing the toss over any point you think can score. You genuinely would be writing "thanks for your opinion". I'm not sure I've actually seen you do that.Dafydd Powell wrote: Fri Jul 17, 2020 8:32 pm The reason I started this thread, which you would know if you had bothered to read the original post or about half of my replies at this point, is that I just wanted to know why people choose mac, and if I was missing anything.

Idea for next thread, why people still use Pro Tools, instead of course your preferred DAW.
