I know (I did work with him on the 101 emu ) , was just thinking out loud about a quick fix for some ppl

i had the same problem with D3, knobs the same colour as background, so made my own

I really like the synth. :tu:

I definitely like the Arturia demo mode better. This penetrating noise is probably meant to keep users away from buying the synth?

The sound is definitely there and the difference is small. But I have to program a few simple sounds myself and then compare them with the Arturia... but that's a bit difficult because of the noise generator ;)
I think the GUI is quite good and I like the contrast too, but I like the Arturia one better (looks a bit more polished).
Arturia is also better with the additional features like modulation, sequencer, effects but also the preset browser.
The price can't be beaten, price-performance ratio is very good :tu:

Hi,

OK, Thanks for the feedback.

I will be purchasing TAL J-8.

I never liked the way Arturia's synths sound, the last version I purchased was their V-Collection 6 , and I won't bother with V-Collection 8 either.

Looking forward to enjoy using TAL J-8.

Cheers,

Having extended modulation on such emulated synths is definitely a bonus, especially when it comes to a few more LFOs. Normally, I'd want one LFO for PWM, and another for vibrato or subtle detuning duties. But a third could be easily used to make a rhythmic patch (perhaps with a ramp LFO assigned to the LFP cutoff).

Start with the authentic emulated, vintage tone, but push it slightly beyond the original with a few mod tricks not available on the original.

Btw... the factory presets of the Arturia sound different than the TAL... I compared some like Lo Brass and Hi Strings.... quite different! But that could be due to the programming.

Different filter ranges too (and their interaction with key-follow)
TBH, I don't have the slightest doubt about which one is closer to the real thing.

Sorry, you asked for it. :D
:hihi:

I've bought vintage emulations from TAL, Arturia, XILS, Synapse, u-he... and I like to think they all do their homework.

Cutoff ranges are different between TAL and Arturia, even the waveforms are different enough to notice, but I just try to keep in mind they're modelled after different vintage units, which are 35-40 years old at this point.

Arturia is reporting a 19.0 Hz to 7333.8 Hz cutoff range, which is unusually specific and suggests they tried to go deep into studying and testing their unit for the emulation.

There's no universal reference point for the "real thing" or the "real deal" in vintage gear, and it's usually a bit of a false premise I often see on forums or YouTube videos of SW/HW comparisons.

When OB-Xa V was released, there were complaints because the filter didn't scream, resonance was too tame, Arturia once again not knowing what they were doing...
In the meantime they published some SW/HW direct comparisons which were pretty much spot-on, and when Obsession (which I have complete faith it sounds "right") was launched shortly after, the filter also didn't scream and had similarly tame resonance.
Still, they sound different, and they're modelled after different 40 years old units.

Kind of a different issue, but still involving TAL and Arturia... the recent discussion about the Juno60 chorus (from the VC8 thread) had an unexpected outcome for me as well. They behave in a completely different way in the I+II configuration and I also immediately assumed the TAL version had the "authentic" behaviour, but it wasn't the case.

Still, I like TAL-U-NO-LX more, for other reasons.

VST3 not seen by Live 10 here.
VST2 working. I'm starting to think that every vst plugin sounds the same.

VST3 is working in Cubase without any problem.

I have found a parameter that is probably responsible for the different factory presets... In the TAL, the PWM mod has a value that is too high, you hear a constant, much too intense modulation. If you adjust the value you come quite close to Arturia. Of course, this could also be a bug or something different in the scaling of the PWM mod.

you can do that in any host really, an lfo to anything

you can't save it as a preset to share, but that's really not an issue

or it could be that one is correctly calibrated to the hardware

This news actually just made my day :D
Having an unusually rough day admittedly, but TAL Jupiter 8? Superbly superb.
Regarding the fader cap line contrast, I agree it could be much better. Either thicken up the line on the fader cap, or make the lines on the panel darker.
Or, if this doesn't offend anyone's sense of authenticity, check how the faders on Audio Damage Ratshack 3 have been done, where the fader cap line doesn't go full width of the cap. The resulting dark border helps to separate foreground from background. And I think it looks pretty cool too.

This news made my day as well. Always good to have something to look forward to.

working perfectly here (logic 10.6 on big sur); good to see, and fun to play with. my brother had a jupiter 8 a million years ago (it was bigger than i was). this is great...

Yes but v4 is a complete rewrite DSP-wise, so it's really been out for a week. :)
