Kids, kids! Enough is enough. Here -- to end the debate forever -- is the ONE TRUE WAY to determine which is better, PC/Windows or Mac. It's so easy, almost anyone can do it.

1) Buy a brand new high-end Macintosh.

2) Buy a brand new high-end Windows box.

3) Buy two small pick-up trucks.

4) Using ropes or chains, attach one computer to the front bumper of each truck.

5) Ram the trucks together head-on at high speed, being careful to leap out of the driver's cabs well before impact. (Tip: having a friend drive one truck makes this step easier!)

6) Examine the remnants of the two machines -- assuming it's possible to determine what pieces came from what machine, that is.

7) Decide which computer fared better. That's the one you want to buy next time you can afford to buy a computer.

See? It's so simple, I don't know why all the fuss.

P.S.: Oh, right -- 0.5) Phone me beforehand so I can be there with cameras! :-D

Either will do. Used is fine, too -- these don't have to be high-end models. :-) Your savings on this part of the exercise can be used to buy extra boards and RAM for the two test computers, improving the results.

If you use/like Logic, get a Mac. For anything and everything else, get a PC. The days of Mac dominance and quality in music production ended about five years ago.

Having owned both I can say that NOW it doesnt really make any difference, and as someone already mentioned, is just down to what software you prefer to use...

Back in the day (1997 lol) PC's were terrible for sequencing, I used to have all sorts of timing problems etc, and found moving to the MAC solved it.
But now, its all even.

I havent used a new G5 yet and im sure they are lightning fast, but you can certainly build a super fast PC for less than £1k with ease.

From a software point of view there is just SO much available for PC now, and vast amounts of quality freeware.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

KvR is amazing. A Mac vs. PC thread and it's been mostly honest, sensible discussion and the usual ribbing. Pretty good.

I think most people here arrived at the same conclusion a long time ago: if it gets the job done, the tool you enjoy using is the one to pick. Mac good, PC good, have fun! :-)

that's right son. the people who can produce a record that "rocks" or "bangs" or what have you are not typing on kvr right now (hello?) they're at a house party in the hollywood hills, sipping free cristal and sitting on a leather couch next to christina ricci watching daisy fuentes and 2 of britney's background singers dance and flirt with each other.
Well the people who can produce records the rock are probably in the studio working on tracks mostly. I think most people here are aware that it's not easy making a commercially succesful track. Then again making a commercially succesful track is not all about making a GOOD track. Well what is a 'good' track anyways?
It's just that I prefer some music to other music mostly because of the music (okay often I also dislike the attitude) and not because a lot of people have bought it/think it's cool or hip or pro or anything.
And most of my favorite musicians/producers have probably never been at a house party in the hollywood hills - please open your ears and find the lots and lots of wonderful music that you won't (or will hardly) see on MTV and that don't sell millions...
...off to make something that doesn't rock :P

NO... Toyota is much better.

This past Friday I attended a lecture by the guy who put together the VA Tech Apple supercomputer. Of 1100 G5 delivered on his door step *1* was dead out of the box. A second one needed replacing because someone dropped it. Remarkably, even though the case was damaged ("the handels functioned like a crumple zone") the machine booted up fine.

See thats exactly the dilema. There is no Rhino for Mac.

Don't be daft. It's not hate, it's derision. And it has nothing to do with how "pro" anybody is. It's about the combination of idiocy and arrogance. They never have gone well together. Anybody who comes in here - regardless of which tracks they've worked on - and spews such self-aggrandizing irrelevence as though they're the new messiah and we should enjoy receiving their holy vomit of words is going to be derided. Count on it.

No, that's not why the hate. You see, he appears to also be a clueless, arrogant twat, which is why the hate.
xraydelta1 + tony van dam + soultrane = great entertainment!
It's a wonder to behold how much twisted logic, misreading and ridiculously erroneous, clueless arguments are going on in this thread. Keep it coming!
