This here: ⇧BertKoor wrote: Mon Feb 07, 2022 9:44 pm Y'all probably seen these "... Got Talent" shows on TV. The contestants don't get judged on their talent at all, but on proficiency plus likeability.
Proficiency is the product of talent/aptitude and effort. With either being zero, the product is zero. With either being high and the other mediocre, the product can be high.
You cannot grow talent, but effort is within your own control. It gets affected by motivation, ambition, character, passion, etc etc.
Is talent born or created with hard work and practice

All fine, but you still stick to your own definition of talent. That's a real hindrance in communication.
The article does not agree with you:

Allow me to clarify myself on this one. First off, I believe your quality as a top athlete consists of three aspects: innate abilities (talent), ability + motivation to learn & practice time. Innate abilities are of course the attributes you received from your parents (height for example). Ability + motivation to learn are necessary for developing, without it you will not develop (your talent). Practice time is the amount of time spent practicing, the more time you spend the higher your quality will be.

But a lot of it does
And the ending part does
Contradict this bit
But anyway
None of us have scientific proof
That we are right
I'm.just set my way now by what I have seen
And some of you guys are set your way
I guess I get what you mean by hindrence
But there's always going to be that when people don agree ,
We could both be wrong and right
But the only thing I disagree on 100%
It's letting your kid stay in league d
If all he needs is a bit of direction to move to league a
Because some parents believe if he was magical he would be born in league a
" Let him play in league d if it makes him happy "
After all that's what is important
Wha if playing leaue a makes him.happier ?
You will never know unless you try
This coming from a man who is as a positive kid who had confidence singing , who wasted his time and used drugs and is now still wasting his life because of mental illness , doesn't want his son to get any negativity inside him what soever so I'll tell him he can do anything of he just believes and my daughter and we'll see what happens but he won't fail he will achieve some sort because I am not bound by my father's DNA , and neither is he
And that Phil Collins comment hurt it didn't inspire me , nagativity produces kids either like Beethoven amazing but not with extreme issues problems , or just kids with issues ,
It's time to flip the script I guess that's why I'm.passionate about this but I've made my points so I'll let you guys finish it thank you .

Many of those talents do have a lot of talent though. And I say that even though I hate pop music, and detest such shows.

True. All sorts of things are considered (by confused people) as 'human construct' these days.

The taiko group I was in was approached by America's Got Talent. We decided against going on it -- they're looking as much for drama and trauma as they are for good performances, and it seemed like it would be a grueling and upsetting experience and we'd gain very little from it.BertKoor wrote: Mon Feb 07, 2022 9:44 pm Y'all probably seen these "... ...
Psychology does a LOT of arguing about what personality traits and... talent or whatever... are genetic and what come from early childhood experiences, culture, education, etc. We're not going to resolve that question on a music forum
The "talent" for anything is a combination of many different factors anyway.
Take languages for instance. If you're born to a multilingual family or culture and have constant exposure to multiple languages, you're going to be better on average at learning new ones than a white kid in an English-only household in Ohio. But differences in ability to memorize, in perception, picking up cues, level of interest and so on are also big factors.
Likewise, growing up being exposed to more music, having music classes in early education etc. probably makes quite a difference. But music involves a TON of different skills, aptitudes, whatever you want to call it. Perception, physical coordination and proprioception, a lot of mental stuff. Rhythm, pitch. Technical knowledge, aesthetics, style, judgement, charisma, the ability to make connections, passion, persistence. And of course there are many different kinds of music and music-making, and different skill sets that contribute to each.
Science is never going to find a gene that determines whether or not your kid will be able to lay down a funky groove.
And I don't care how good a six-year-old prodigy with perfect pitch might be, they don't have the life experience to make really compelling music. Technical virtuosity is one thing, but making people shake their asses or pump their fists or cry (...or buy your albums) takes more than that. So conversely, if you weren't born with that advantage, you can probably overcome it and leave the little twerp in the dust.

Most of people that tell you talent is born are the ones who haven't got it or wait for it !!JamminFool wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 2:49 pmunless you don't have it. then you question it's existence.Aloysius wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 12:08 pm talent

They are bitter they haven't made it big
So the tell themselves a story
This is why
All the ones who make it say u can do it
If I can sure , just believe
Ie : some of my family and friends would say come on YOU could never be famous I've had girlfriends tell me this shit ( believing tha famous people have something magical sprinkled on them at birth)
I'm not famous because I never tried
I don't believe in myself enough up until this moment of time ,.
I don't know if I could be
That's a trait you need , but I created that my souroundings created that .
I suffer from OCD and low self esteem at points in my life
So I have held myself back
But when I went to music college loads of people who had that belief they could make it
( Insanely talented people would tell me
George your wasting you talent if I coul sing like you I'd be famous right now
( Not that I'm amazing I think I'm shit I'm.just ok
What is important is not me here
I haven't got a big head at all
I think I suck
The problem Is the mass attitude
For the next generation
Of " I'm f**king amazing I can sing play like a god
There's just people out there more talented than me
That's why I didn't make it
It's not real
You didn't make it for whatever reason
You don't fit into the market
Your not as good as you think you are
Etc etc etc
There's many reasons why
You just can't tell me you never made it because you had talent
But it wasn't natural
That's just gods magical sauce
I do make myself laugh
Because I do expect that looking online
Will give me food for thought and equal divided answers
But all I find is More frustration
Because a lot of us don change in believing the same things we have believed for the same 100s of years even me on some things , I'm learning and we All are ,
But let's end and agree on one note
That we all tell our kids if they say
I wanna sing as good as Bruno Mars or Adele
Or play like slash or Elton John
That they can if they work hard
Because even if they don't
They will still get somewhere
And you just never ever know
They may be the next big thing
But if you see them struggling in the beginning
Don't say " shut up you sound like a strangled cat you'll never be an adele
Or " put that guitar in the pawn shop you'll never be slash
You could have turned a future star into McDonald's latest creation
Or just pumping out covers on a Saturday night
In mike's flaming flamingos cover band
Which if it makes them happy why not
But why not let them dream for a while
?
Stay happy , stay safe
Be kind to one another and yourself
Peace out .

I believe nurture could also play a part.
When we are young, we can absorb so much information, make learning enjoyable and a pleasure through nurture. This could make an individual eager to progress.

talent, ability, and skill are no guarantee of success.George your wasting you talent if I coul sing like you I'd be famous right now
perhaps not even a requirement, judging from some of the music that sells well these days.

So success is not necessarily a by-product of talent. I remember Mark Knofler saying he had friends who were better than him but they just played in their bedrooms. Nothing wrong with that imho.
