after using Cubase for the last 20 something years, version 12 is a dream. Some plugins don't even glitch the audio stream when added or removed. IMAGINE THAT!

Well, it's like brain surgery. It's rewriting the entire audio engine and anything related to audio may end up with bugs and issues. We're talking about millions of possibilities.v1o wrote: Mon Mar 14, 2022 8:57 amOh my gosh, is gapless audio such a real deal breaker?trusampler wrote: Thu Mar 03, 2022 12:51 pm Gapless Audio is still there, this was one of the most requested feature requests and the fact Steinberg didn't do it, is just the constant f**k u to it's customers, so no f**k you steinberg. It's the fact your dev's can't do it, without rewriting Cubase from the ground up, and your too cowardly to admit it to your customers. Rodney Orpheus called this out back on version 4.0 ,and I always had a feeling he was right..
There we're absolutely no changes to gapless audio, you f**king liars.
People who are angry that Steinberg didn't do that yet, most likely know nothing about programming. It's not just simple as changing: gapless audio = 'off' to 'on'.

I've been using Cubase 12 for more than a week. Better to give it some time it's like a BETA version. It is confirmed the ASIO guard has some issue and sometimes it is not smooth during playback

i'm having a lot of crashes today.
Today is the first time i've been recording vocals, indeed even working with audio files in Cubase 12.
Ball status: Broken
even plugins that were previously stable, everything seems to be crashing.
can't really put my finger on it, removing the asio guard seems to wig shit out, there' not a lot of strain on the machine, only a few synths running, maybe 10 low cpu effects...
yay version 1.0

I recorded guitar last week for the first time in version 12 and it worked fine. It seems to be working pretty well so far - I believe there’s been a couple of crashes since I got it at its release but generally ok.sqigls wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 4:38 am i'm having a lot of crashes today.

One thing that this version, and the last, suffer from is a grey box at start up saying it didn’t shut down correctly and info on a dump file.
There’s definitely something I have in Cubase it doesn’t like!
Grum.

for a while there it was crashing any time i did ANYTHING.
Fought it all day, and came out on top. Some of it was VST3, i took them out and the VST2 loaded fine. Some of them i feared the project was corrupt or something. Then the crashes stopped for a while. There was no real indicator of why. Like a few of the crashes were when i hit return to zero, a few happened when I hit play or stop. Some when i soloed a track, some when I adjusted a fader... was INSANE.

Kind of a big deal to see the full Cubase Pro 12 demo with no dongle required.Flip64 wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 3:24 pm And there's now a demo - free use for 30 (thirty) days:

So many people like to claim Cubase is old, and they are right ... it certainly has been around for a long time. However, it's truly a fantastic piece of software that manages to feel very modern.
Best MIDI editing, arrange, and automation in any DAW IMHO. Cubase is just a terrific place to get work done.

A bed is a channel-based premix or stem that includes multichannel panning, and does not need dedicated panning via Dolby Atmos metadata. Use a bed for stereo or surround panning. A bed can be thought of as a traditional channel-based stem with the rules and expectations of stem configurations (such as 2.0, 5.1, and 7.1). These are fixed locations in space that are tightly constrained to traditional speaker environments, including theatrical environments where a speaker array might be used.Grumbleweed wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 3:34 pmThe video just popped up in my YouTube recommendations - I'll have to download this one and see what fun can be had.billcarroll wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 1:28 pm CUBASE 12.0.10 released

In Dolby Atmos, the largest bed configuration that exists is 7.1.2. This configuration allows for Low-Frequency Effects (LFE), with left and right side walls, and an additional overhead stereo pair. Dolby Atmos supports the use of multiple beds.

I think DAWs preference is pretty individual. I got started with midi sequencing with Steinberg - Pro 12 in 1989, before "DAW" was a thing. I think Cubase started in the early 90s. The workflow works for me - I've tried various others over the years and never found anything quite as intuitive. So for me, yes I agree with your last statement - but others will swear by Logic/Ableton/whatever. They're all just tools to get a job done though ultimately.billcarroll wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 3:37 pmKind of a big deal to see the full Cubase Pro 12 demo with no dongle required.Flip64 wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 3:24 pm And there's now a demo - free use for 30 (thirty) days:

I honestly don't understand the hate cubase gets for being "old" either. It works a certain way - if you prefer working a different way, use something else. Big deal, you know?!
I only upgrade every few years. I am tempted to go for 12 Pro finally. I'll try the demo when I get some free testing time.

Dolby Atmos mixing?
i can’t even mix in stereo properly
…
Seems to be a hype atm, that Atmos thingy, and probably a good thing for a lot of media composers working in Cubase. Not sure it’s useful for the “average” music producing hobbyist?
Well, I didn’t have any real problems with 12.0, except the missing key commands for vertical zoom in the sample editor, and they fixed that in 12.0.10.

I'll never ever use Dolby Atmos I'm sure - but Cubase has a whole bunch of stuff I never use anyway. As a hobbyist I've always got by on the lighter versions, while yearning after maybe 1 or 2 of the Pro version features.

I downloaded the latest Cubase and playing around with the new toy turned Cubase from a pretty stable DAW (that loves to tell me it didn't shut down correctly when I boot it up) into a glitchy nightmare that would just shut Cubase down with no warning!
I'm going to avoid the Dolby Atmos shenanigans for now
