Strymon Big Sky Plugin

Someone made some Big/Blue Sky IRs a while back. Of course we know this wont capture the tail modulation etc. and probably best just to try the Strymon plugin demo.

The off the shelf shark repellent spray isn't waterproof. He has to get it specially formulated. Plus he has sensitive skin, so the formulation requires aloe vera.vurt wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 4:56 pmerrr you don't know much about batman do you?VitaminD wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 4:41 pmThat's thinking of which Batman approves.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 3:59 pmI didn't and probably won't. It's not an issue of being able to afford a $200 plugin. It's more of a question, do I want to spend $200 on a Big Sky plugin right now? The answer is currently no.VitaminD wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 3:51 pm Batman still thinks you shouldn't buy it on a payment plan.
Not to diminish this reverb. I find it sounds very nice. But Batman is a big saver and only buys what he needs, splurging only when the product is on discount and doesn't overlap with other already-owned products.
he's the kind of guy, that rather than use your average off the shelf shark sharp repellent spray, he has specially packaged "bat-shark repellent spray" made up at double the cost.
and its not just bat-shark repellent spray, it's everything from bat rope to bat contact lens cleaner. total spendbug!!!

Agreed, it's not unreasonable, but it's above the line where most people are comfortable casually grabbing a plugin. It's also a saturated market with stiff competition both for price and quality.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 3:59 pm I'll also go out on a limb say I don't think the price is as unreasonable as the internet makes it out to be. It's high. Don't get me wrong.
What I find myself wanting is a software version of Walrus Audio Slö. (And though it's not a reverb, I would definitely welcome a plugin version of Red Panda Tensor...).

For a bloom algorithm, and I couldn't say whether it compares favorably with Strymon's, Airwindows MV is something special and can "just sustain a 'bloom' forever." I prefer it to Xenoverb's flow.
p.s. Batman would obviously prefer Noise Engineering's Desmodus.

FYI I didnt ask them to change their price, merely wondering why they charged what they did. I used Valhalla as a comparison because Strymon is entering a reverb plugin market, and Valhalla seems to be the company most people turn to when they look for a great reverb at a great price. I said that Supermassive sounds better than Big Sky because it is a subjective statement, I know that. Do I think $200 is nuts for their plugin? Absolutely, other people will disagree

I never said just because Supermassive is free, Big Sky should be free.chk071 wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 4:59 pm Should Big Sky be free just because some reverbs are released for free?
That kind of argumentation doesn't make sense. Vote with your wallet. If you think that Big Sky is too expensive, just don't buy it. But, don't pretend that you're some kind of justice warrior, trying to change their pricing policy.

I will wait for the inevitable bundle with some other of their pedals in plugin form and for that bundle to be on sale. So maybe a year and for the same sort of money hopefully will pick up 3 or 4 plugins.

Out of curiosity, why would hardware sales tank if this were at a lower price point or even a sale? We haven't seen the same rationale for plugin/hardware when it comes to guitar amp sim software or other pedals now available as plugins. Plenty of companies are still going strong even with the vast amount of plugin variants of hardware. If anything, it's most likely boosting sales since they're exposed to a larger market beyond the conventional guitar player. Plus, "producer" buying plugin X wouldn't have an impact on "player" buying/not buying the hardware equivalent of X. Just because there's a cheaper plugin version doesn't mean "player" is going to opt for the plugin and also incorporate a laptop into their setup.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 3:59 pm I'll also go out on a limb say I don't think the price is as unreasonable as the internet makes it out to be. It's high. Don't get me wrong. But people saying it should be $99 are ignoring the fact that doing so would tank hardware sales, which is their bread and butter. They've got to balance the price between "not so cheap that no one will buy the hardware, and not so expensive that no one will buy the plugin."

There are to much marketing experts at KVR obviously,
Tomorrows I will go to the Mercedes dealer and claim to get a SE for half the price because compared to Vplkswagen his prices are unreasonable.

May be a reasonable price, just know I’m not paying it. I picked up a Meris Mercury 7 for about the same.

I too are wondering if that is indeed a reality.
I imagine hardware sells because:
1) Tactile workflow.
2) Live playing and easier to tour with and set up.
3) Some still seem to think they sound better.
4) Impress clients.
5) Some are not available as software.
I am sure they are others, but those are the top 5 I can think of..
Surely having a software doesn't affect 4 of them.

I'm not sure I'd buy the hardware if I had the plugin available. Then again, I did recently build a synth pedalboard for my Prophet even though it never leaves the home studio and I have plugins available. So maybe not. But I'm pretty sure Strymon would have discussed the potential impact on hardware sales if they priced this too low.guitarmiester wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 6:31 pmOut of curiosity, why would hardware sales tank if this were at a lower price point or even a sale? Didn't realise it's iLok. Oh well, it's def off the list even if they offer sales. How to make a plugin horribly unattractive - overcharge then make security a hassle (actually iLok is easier than it used to be but it's still PACE, hence a barnacle on the left testicle of the devil - Sony being the other barnacle on his right testicle).
