I was there, but did not see a 'chat', so I didn't. :ud:
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

marcs performance was great!
the applause thing came out of leftfield and he took it to unexpected places!! was my favourite part, watching him build from nothing, the others were cool, but didnt really show me much of what the move is capable of, or indeed marc himself, that last track, he was grooving away!

and fancy it taking an american to tell me about a british company doing music retreats in france...

Thanks for watching, all the same!
I’ve been using the ‘watch’ tag in my links, so that the preview shows up in my posts. If I use the ‘live’ tag the preview doesn’t work but I think in that case the chat appears by default. I’ll figure this stuff out eventually, lol.

Marc has a great ear for interesting sounds and ways to manipulate them. His recordings are full of found sounds and spontaneously sampled instruments. It’s inspiring to watch him find a sound and make it work in a composition. He’s a fascinating guy.

Preparing for the next episode of Patching @ 3am. This week I'll be talking about the various forms and functions of feedback in electronic music.

otherwise known as "showing off my umbra"? :hihi:
looking forward to this one, i love feedback patches :band:

Actually, the Umbra may not make it into pt.1, lol. I'm doing some case rearranging at the moment. The current plan is to talk about common applications of feedback (op amp gain, filter resonance, etc) demonstrate some methods of controlling acoustic feedback with small speakers and piezos, some pedal feedback with a passive matrix mixer and maybe a short performance with my Cocoquantus. I'm planning for 3 episodes related to feedback. The other two will be geared toward modular techniques. Lots of ground to cover!

The format for these videos should be:
Long, marathon length that last until at least 3 in the morning, have some loud, pumping techno music going in the background so it’s hard to hear what your saying; and the room should be totally dark except for a strobe light - you might want to wear a couple of flashlights strapped to your head like Orbital so you can see what your doing, but for everyone at home it would take like three of four viewing to learn anything at all. :)

wow, that actually sounds both cool and like a lot of work!
this first episode, sounds like one ill be learning most from, do very little in the speaker/mic area, beyond my guitar playing in metal bands :band:
i do more loop feedback, but even there, im sure theres lots i can still learn!
looking forward to these 3 episodes! :phones:

While this suggestion appeals to my inclination to be as oblique as possible, I also really enjoy sunshine! I was a surfer before I met the goth GF who became my wife. :hihi:

I really want these videos to feel like hanging out in my studio, waiting for a project to finish rendering or something. I'm not necessarily trying to teach anything useful, just talking shop.

But yes, I will eventually do a stream at 3am PDT. :D

Some work yeah but it should be fun! At first I was trying to script things out but now I think I'll just put a bunch of stuff out on a table and explore stuff. Maybe a little awkward but it's really how I tend to work when I harvesting sampler food.

I'm getting set up for the stream today at 2pm PDT. Once again completely underprepared but we'll have fun!
Gonna make some circuits squeal!

see you there!
